Looking to swap a 4.0 for something
Bought a 2010 V6 and well... we need more horsepower! I originally thought about doing a 3.7L swap from the 11 and up mustangs but I hear otherwise on the forums.
How much work has to be done to actually do an engine swap and what’s a rough area cost for putting in a 5.0 or 5.4?

You can do any swap, with all the parts, ECU, harnesses and gauge cluster. The 2011
was when they changed the motor and trans. The easiest for you would be the 4.6 swap.
Or you want a 3.7, 2.3T, or 5.0, you need all the donor stuff from a 2011+ car. It will be cheaper
for you to trade it for a 2011, with that cash you're going to pay for the swap, or sell it, add cash,
and buy a 2011. I missed a 2012 for $4800, so I know that they CAN be had if you keep
looking.

There are several differences with the 2011+ so it isn't the easiest swap. Electric power steering for example - so you have to do a little more to upgrade like that.
Far easier is to swap with a 2005-10 4.6L V8 - get a donor wreck so you can pull everything you need.
And you will want to upgrade the rear end. The 7.5 open diff rear end in the 2005-10 V6 will not last long with any added power. That is an easy swap - if it comes from a 2005-10 GT or GT500 you need to swap the pinion flange, but otherwise it is a direct fit. If the rear end comes from any 2011-14 Mustang (all have the 8.8" rear end) then depending upon the options on the car it comes from some will already have the correct pinion flange.
