Gear Install in Phoenix(/AZ)
Ciao!
I am looking for a place/someone to install my gears (Ford 4.10's) for me in Phoenix/surrounding areas.
I called up "FlyN'Hi" who does many installs, and they quoted me $250.00 to install them. (and need it all day)
(thats with me providing the gears and oil)
anyone know any other places? I am looking for a better quote.
I heard on here by someone they had them installed by someplace in phoenix (maybe payson?) for $100.00
PLEASE help me out!
GRAZIE!

Well, if you can't find a car specific place to install gears, you should go to any offroad shop. Gear installation is the same for any vehicle with an 8.8 rear end, which a lot of offroaders use, but I wouldn't pay any less than $250 for a gear installation. That's actually an ok price, but if you could find someone that would install gears from their garage, you could probably get a better deal, like around $150... Either way, you'll have to break in the gears for about 500 miles, then replace the gear oil after those 500, since the gears have to go through heat cycles. If you run them at high speeds from the get go, you have a very big chance of blowing up the gears from too much heat, and I've seen it happen before.
Also, once you go to 4.10s, you'll also need a new carrier for the gears, since the one you have right now will not work, that's assuming you have the stock gearing in your mustang right now. Finding all of these parts used is really not hard though, and if you're lucky, you could find the gears under an explorer with an 8.8 and a LSD, which wouldn't be hard at all to find. Sorry for typing so much, but I just thought you'd like my input.
