Anybody going to Birmingham?
My wife and I have hotel reservations in Birmingham for the Labor Day 30th anniversary Mustang Stampede. Anyone else planning on going or are there any forum members in or near Birmingham Alabama? We wanted to find out something about the area before we go down there from Kentucky.

We are in Spencer, Tn which is 50 miles north of Chattanooga. We are leaving Friday morning too...we are staying at the host hotel, the Marriott.....never been there should be fun. We have a 06 Screaming Yellow GT that we bought in March and it already has 7000 miles on it.....we love to drive our stang. We are hoping to see alot of vendors too....we want to stripe ours also but are going to wait till we go to the show to get ideas. What color is your Mustang?.......Know why you'd be Dylan fans.........great singer, songwriter. We had a 05 V6 Premium Coupe (Red) we traded for the GT and we loved it.....but we feel in love with the Yellow and the rest is history as they say.
Our 2006 Premium V6 Coupe is Tungsten Grey with the Pony Package and the Interior Upgrade Package and a single Flowmaster. One of my other cars is a fully optioned 2000 Corvette convertible that is Sebring Silver with six speed, black top, Billie Bob exhaust and a double K&N air filter. The Mustang is basically my daily driver and go to Mustang club activities car. My wife is not too keen on stripes on the Mustang. She might like stripes on only the hood and trunk and not the top. This Sunday six Mustangs from our club took a 50 mile drive to Madisonville Kentucky for lunch at the a local resturaunt. Coming home we were led by a 1999 Mustang Cobra and we were doing 70 to 75 down the Kentucky back roads. Saturday we went to a car show in Newburgh Indiana in the afternoon and then a cruise in that was in Henderson Kentucky. We have about 30 members in the club and several are planning on going to Birmingham. My wife and I are planning on going to Lexington Kentucky to see Bob Dylan at the ballpark there with Merle Haggard next month.
We're going to Birmingham. Supposed to bring 1 of our 3 Mustangs. We have 2 1978 Mustang II Ghia's - one is brown and the other is midnight blue. The other mustang is a 2005 Mustang GT - Sonic Blue with 50,000 miles on her. We're coming from Illinois, leaving Wednesday night and staying at the Mariott.
I'll act as a tour guide as much as I can. Barber Motorsports Park is in Birmingham in name only. In reality it is closer to Leeds, AL which is about 10 minutes away from BHM (Irondale really). My wife is from the area and still has family there, so I've gotten to know that area reasonably well. Biggest thing to know is to watch yourself on 20/59 headed to Leeds. The Highway Patrol and the locals like patroling that stretch a lot as it is, but faced with the prospect of thousands of pony's tearing through there, and that's a good day to make up their ticket quotas.
Moody and Leeds are the closest cities to the park. Both have a reasonable collection of fast food and chain restaurants to eat at, and with Irondale on 10 minutes away, food is not a problem. I will recommend stopping at Milo's in Moody if you want a truly unique burger. Milo's is like no other and I never go visit the in-laws without stopping by. You might also check out the Whistlestop Cafe in Irondale, which is the restaurant from the film Fried Green Tomatoes.
What do y'all really want to know?
