difference between SD M/A
You can call me stupid but i really dont get the difference bewteen M/A and SD i mean i get the basic difference but not the difference it makes Horse power wise or things like that because i have an 88 GT that is S/D and im wondering about converting to Mass air because ive been told it is much better

Mass air can be more trouble free when you add mods, primarily when it comes to cams and idle. But SD can still make excellent power. Most of the powerful aftermarket EFI setups are SD.

all mass air will do for you now is make it easier on cam selection , but if you do your home work you can make really good power with the stock sd and 67 is right if you go with stand alone sd like megasquirt or xfi mass air will pale in comparision .

sd cars use a map sensor(manifold absolute pressure) that measures vaccum, its enrichment strategy is based on vacuum, rpm, iat, and o2's. when you add a cam it will make less vacuum and load the plugs. the stock cam will actually make good power and great driveabilty and torque. the restriction is in the heads mostly then exhasut than intake ports. the small ports are restrictive but support good velocity for good cylinder fill at lower rpm/
maf cars use a mass air flow meter which measures flow, they use a bap sensor intead of map which just mesures barametric psi, they dont rely on a vacuum signal. but at wot the maf isnt used its just a restriction, mainly just o2's,thats why stock vs stock sd cars are faster. beleive it or not stock 86's were the fastest, not most hp but lightest and still had torque of efi runners
the benefit of maf cars is after 400rwhp. sd's can get away w/fmu bumping fuel psi to make small injectors work, maf cars can run 42's or 60's when turning the wick up, but then the weak point is the block, its good to 500rwhp. but dont be scared, it takes alot to make 500rwhp, top shelf h/c/i and 175shot OR 15psi boost. turbo cars can hit the 500mark w/about 11psi cause there is no drag, heat alone will spin the turbine and after you get it zinging it can freewheel where a blower car your slowing it back down on shifts and the drag to turn the blower eats about 25%of the power
