years for speed density cars and differences...
I was looking at a Mustang GT for sale today and was wondering if it most likely a speed density car. The only thing year wise I know about it is, it has the louvered tail lights. I know the louvered tail lights were used for the 87' and 88' year but did they have them in later years as well and also what year mustangs were speed density? Also, whats the main differences? I heard they don't take mods as well? If I got the car I would like to put diffrent heads, intake, exhaust, cold air intake, and underdrive pulleys. But, in all reality, I would probably never get to the heads/intake. What happens when you start to mod them? All input is apreciated, thanks!

those taillights were used from 87-93
87 and 88s were speed density. actually 88s that were made in Cali were mass air.
you can mod a speed density car as much as you want. the only thing you have to be careful about is the type of cam you use.

Ok, although the cam is something I would probably never get to, what do you have to lookout for as in cam choice? I plan on getting another Mustang (SHHHH!!!I'm a Chevy guy!) I used to own a 92' convertable. I loved the car till the tranny started slipping. Anyway, what I do to the car really depends on time, money, and my fiance. Thanks for the above info!

i think it has to do something with losing vacuum with too big of a cam.

someone around here has a list of all the cams that work with speed density cars. I believe that the thing that you have to watch out for is the lobe seperation. I think a cam will only work if it has a LSA of 114 degrees in a speed density car.

there are 5 off the shelf cams for sd.. and yes search there is a list of them on a few threads.. wont gain you much in reality for whats available.. but all the rest the mods are fine. just look under hood and look for a MAF in the intake line is easiest way to tell if it is SD.

http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=Aq_Zn6w...2D4E1C1795.gif here are the list of cams that work with speed density and mustang jon is right on telling the two apart . you can make good power with stock sd but for outrageous power you would have to look at after market ecu's such as megasquirt or xfi .
there are a few trick i could tell you to get more juice out of the sd if your interested pm me and i will give ya a list of them .
