Default Speed Density to Carb?

Hi everyone..

I have an '88 LX convertible with a 5.0, 5-speed. STOCK!! It's just a weekend toy. I've built 5 or 6 EFI Stangs over the years & I'm tired of spending all that cash on EFI stuff.

I've looked over a few posts & I want to make sure I understand everything I need to swap it over to a carb (lower priced swap)..

- '85 GT Distributor
- 650 to 750 Carb (depending on the other mods I will have, cam, heads ect...)
- '85 GT Throttle Cable
- Carb Intake (I'm thinkin' Edelbrock)

I need fuel info.. Should I drop in a 255 (or 190) in tank & use an under hood FPR? I also have to delete (cap off) the return line right?

Am I missing anything??

Thank You for your help...

ur gonnna need a pretty decent FPR cuz u only wanna run about 9 psi to the carb and the factory pump makes over 40psi i believe i made the mistake once and washed the rings. some FPR come with a return line output so you can keep that option. now unless you are going to be going with a power adder like nitrous a 750 is a little overkill i had a 750 on my built 85 5.0 and i had to jet the secondaries way down because it was to much fuel. a 650 would be ideal and if you ever need more you could always just rejet it. you might want to consider using an older style fuel tank from a carb'd car and run an underhood electric pump made for a carb jus my suggestion

Thanks for the info.. I've done a little searching on this & found a guy using an '84 T/A pump in the stock Mustang tank & a bypass reg. with the return in it so you don't have to worry about vaporlock. I'm going 750 on the carb (due to nitrous).

not a mustang but i swapped a 350 into a efi 3.8 firebird for my g/f, i left the stock pump in the tank and used a fpr mounted under the hood. this one had a return on it, its been working great for a couple years. but im not sue what pressure that system makes
