Default Carb'd 302 help..

My father and I have been having isues with the car wanting to crank after replacing intake manifolds.

its started out as us having the stock mani with a motorcraft 2150 2bbl carb... it ran perfect..we order a edelbrock performer intake for it and mount it and put the carb on and tried to crank it and nothing happens...so we change back to stock mani to see if thats the problem....again nothing happens when we try cranking it...

we messed with the elec choke and the setting on it and the idle set screw and we can get it to crank with giving it fuel...and the choke on...

it will run as long as we are holding the top butterfly valve closed, but as soon as we let go of it and it opens up a bit it dies....any ideas to help us out of what could be wrong?

we did..but we got it crank long enough we think to set the timing to where it should be....or so we think we did...

could it possibly be out of timing so much its causing this and we think we got it right?

Try advancing the timing some and starting it again, if you can get it to run, even barely, keep advancing timing until it runs well, or if it gets worse retard it till it runs well. If that fixes it then once it's running on it's own you can retime it.
