ORIGINAL: fast4door

Like stated above the LT4 was an option in 96 which came in the Gran Sport Corvettes. They are identified by M6 tranny and will have the 2 big rally stripes down the center of the car. All other 96 vettes were autos. And yes, there were special edition Camaro and Firehawks that had the LT4 but never a GM produced car. Aftermarket companies such as SLP and others installed the LT4.

The LT4 itself was a good powerplant. But the conversion kits sold have a different cam known as the Hotcam. It's bigger than the stock LT4 cam and use a 1.6 roller rocker as opposed to the stock stamped steel 1.5 ratio rockers. The heads and intake differ due to a .100 taller intake runner. The LT4 intake can be easily identified due to it being red powdercoat. But that doesn't always mean it's an LT4 or not. Mine is powdercoated Purple and it's an LT1 intake. (wifes idea. her car)

My current Impala set up is a Hotcammed LT1 / P&P LT1 aluminum heads.

If the guy had a bad tune or no tune, his car will run like dogpoop. My car put down 250 w/o a tune then jumped to 322 with a mailorder tune. Due to I installed bigger injectors, etc to facilitate the heads/cam. So the whole tune was outta whack.

But, he coulda been blowin smoke trying to intimidate you.
Nevertheless, good kill.
Most of your post is true, in fact the 96 C4 vette had a option from the factory for a LT4 engine or "grand sport" engine as it was listed as. They were in all collectors edition C4's in 96. There is really no way of identifying them unless you look under the hood and see the powder coated LT4 intake.

LT1Z28,
I'll trump that. The only vettes that had the LT4 were the Grand Sports and only the Grand Sport had the M6 option. There were no other option. I've bee through this many times. I have a very good friend who is vette fanatic and buy, sells and restores nothing BUT vettes. You're talking to an older guy who lived the years of these cars, not read about them. Live less than an hour away from the Vette plant and museum and have been there many, many times. So I know a little history of GM and the Vette.
BTW, would you happen to know where I can get a 83 vette??? LOL

Holy crap. Both of you!

1996 the LT4 was STANDARD with the manual transmission. It was not available with the automatic. They were in ALL M6 Corvettes in 1996...Grand Sport, Collector, Regular ol'Vette doesn't matter. Auto - LT1 Manual - LT4.

Are we clear on this now?

And Fast 4 Door. I know you're an older guy that lived during these cars...But I'm an older guy that HAD one. In 1996 there were 3 C4's in my family. 2 of them were 6-Speed LT4's. One was a 6-speed red coupe. The other was a 6-speed collector edition convertible. Both LT4's.

Wait a minute...Are you calling the cars Grand Sports because they had the GS plate on the throttle body?

This is the only car thats actually a Grand Sport. With the exception of the Gran Sport in 1963.

I am not trying to start anything so sorry if you took it that way..... But really go check it out, you could buy a collectors edition vette and yes even some regular vettes and check the LT4 option and it would come with one from the factory. It had the GrandSport badge on the throttle body so like sidewayz said perhaps you mistook that for a real grand sport. And yes Lt4's were only mated to a 6-speed. And i do know this for sure because my dad owns a 96 collectors edition.. It is silver and has the LT4 and we ordered it that way so yes i do know from experiance and not have had to read about them......
