No sir.. EVO VIII is faster then STi.. & MR is just that much more faster.

Yeah thats a worthy kill - I wouldn't say evos are a 13 flat... they're a bit slower then STi Imprezzas and I think they're at 13 or so... I would say a EVO MR/VIII would put down a low 13... The MR's aren't to much differant then the reg Evo series...

All the times and videos I've seen of races, the STI would beat an Evo VIII. The STI' are 13-13.2 and the Evo VIII's are 13.2-13.5. Both are quick, but the STI's are quicker.

your right man, the reg. evo 8 gets beat by about 1 to 2 tenths of a second, stock on stock. Mod either one of them to your likings and the evo walks off on the STI, the potential for the 4g63 motor is crazy to be a four cylinder. BUT in 06 whent he evo 9's came out they put the subby in its place. Stock WRX vs a Stock evo 9, evo wins by a couple of seconds. And the MR and STI are about the same amount of times. But with the comparison between the evo 8 and the sti doesnt really make sense to me. If your gonna take the subbys top of the line wrx and compare it to an evo you should compare it to the top of the line mr and that would be a good comparison, which the evo wins when you compare them that way. The only reason the Magazines dont compare the two is because mitsu. came out with the evo 8 MR near the end of the production year and they all worried about the new 9 that was coming out.

Yeah there the same minus the bigger hot side on the turbo and different clips on the turbine blades, and the six speed tranny, and the cosmetic differences, and the bilstein Suspension, selectable active center differential, Aluminum roof and all that. But your right my man, they just slap a MR badge on there and mark the price up.

edit: forgot to add, badass kill. He shoulda manhandled you, but you stuck it to him.
"As an exclusive for the MR Edition, a six-speed transmission makes the power more accessible. The Evolution's AWD system gains an Active Center Differential (ACD) and front limited-slip, which - combined with Sports ABS - creates a more natural, better-mannered driving feel. Man and machine have never been so intimately linked."
That's the differance between a regular Evo VIII and a Evo VIII MR edition. Mitsubishi rated 0-60 in 5.1 seconds.... I really don't want to magazine race, but every test i have ever seen shows the STi beating the Evo by .2 seconds or so, but they say the Evo is MUCH more fun to drive, and has superior handling. I can understand when we say that this or that magazine may be bias and that's under these or that conditions, but when everyone says it - could it just be the truth??? i am not disputing anything saying that this car is not a beast of a car because it is just that, and not tryint to take anything away from it... but facts are facts... That was information I found for 2005..
For 2006... The evo is rated at 286hp @ 6500 rpms and 289lb ft of tor @ 3500 rpms, and weighs 3285lbs with a 7k redline... The 2006 STi has 300hp @ 6000rpms and 300 lb ft of torque @ 4000rpms at 3351 weight and the tach hits about 9k... with a 0-60 time of under 5 seconds... The Evo 8 is slower then the STi whether or not it's a MR... The Evo 9 MR, is probably goin to be a damn good race... Either way if you're beating or hanging with Evo's or STi's be proud of your gt! Since the last time i saw one go from 80-120+ in about 3 seconds, I would be, haha... Oh btw, there is the link to my stat source...
Evo IX MR... side links will show STi and Evo VIII MR

In stock form the EVO is a better track car. It consistently turns better road course times. The 4g63 is a great engine too and it is much cheaper to modify to make the EVO faster in a straight line than an STi. To swap out the camshaft in an EVO takes like 10 minutes.
On the downside though, all of the EVOs I've been in have had really terrible interiors aside from the Recaro seats. Stock EVO clutches are notorious for sucking and Mitsubishi as a company really sucks too, the rumor has been out for a long time that it's going to go bankrupt. What do you do then with your factory warranty when the company who made your car goes under ? heh
As an even BIGGER downside, the new EVO body styling is SO FREAKING UGLY! What the hell were their designers thinking? I hate the 06 STi, but the newest EVO looks like its designers had downs syndrome or had a really bad night with a bottle of Absynthe.

If you modify it, street or track race it and Mitsu knows about it they'll void any warrenty claims anyway. The reason they do that is because they're going broke. Then people swap in a new clutch and proceed to blow it up then take it back to the dealer, say it's stock and then Mitsu has to pick up the tab because they didn't know it wasn't the stock clutch that blew out while you were doing 4000 rpm launches at the track.

The Evolution MR is capable of 13 flat. Stock for stock it will manhandle a 2004 GT. That is indeed a good kill.

Best i have seen is around a 13.3-4 and that was with a hell of a driver.
My car before the TKO but otherwise as it sits was PLAYING with a evo on the highway. Starting from about a 70 roll I was able to walk him, let off, and as he tried to flyby walk him again.
MR's are actually quicker than the EVO(i read it somewhere either on a car site or a mag). 1) because of the front lsd, and i think theyre lighter, due to less body "enhancements". either way, congrats on the win. he shouldve won.
