Well if it is a pretty close race I might shell out the extra cash for the Mach1 instead of the LS1. The thing is that I currently own a 2001GT and used to own a 98GT and am getting very sick of this interior (new was fond of it). A lot of people rag on the LS1 interior but I think it is much sportier than the Mustangs...

From what I hear the LS1s dyno about 300RWHP stock as they are underrated. Whats a Mach dyno at? 260?

I believe Mach I's usually dyno between 265-272rwhp. Personally, I think an auto LS-1 vs a 5spd Mach I is a good race, but an LS-1 with a manual will have a small edge over a 5spd Mach I. Nothing a set of DR's couldn't cure though...

pretty much a drivers race. depends if the camaro is a SS. cuz if it is it will have 3.73s if its an auto dont know bout manual. but if its a regular camaro then i would put money on mach.
The SS has 3.42 gears in a 6 speed car, and 3.23 in an auto. I will say it again, WS6, SS, Z/28 ALL run about the same in the 1/4. Stock for stock it's a close race, with a very slight edge to the LS1. However if you are considering modding the car, a LS1 responds very very well to simple bolt ons. Plus if you want some real power a cam swap is cheap compared to a 4v car (only one cam). In the end you should try and drive both and see what you like best.

+1

The Mach1's 281 and LS! are both great motors, both respond well to mods, and both can reach very high HPs. I'm gonna say LS1 as well, but not by much. All the LS1 cars have way high top ends, but the Mach 1s are pretty fast too. I say get the Mach 1, but thats because I do not like the look of 1973+ Camaros. Just not my taste.

I'd say the LS1 would win by a few tenths of a second. The Mach looks better in my opinion, the shaker hood is beautiful. I like the look of the SS too, but I'm not much of a Chevy guy, but I would take an SS, just not over the Mach.

I concur....since all things are almost never equal........it would be a driver's race. I also agree that the Mach's are pretty sweet lookin rides. If I were to add a New Edge to my stang collection.......it would definitely be a Mach. Yea, yea, I know...... no Cobra???!!! But there just aren't as many Mach's (of any year) on the roads compared to Cobras. A more special car if you ask me. Plus, in a few months time my 05 will be as fast as a stock 03-04 Cobra anyways.

I agree with you that you dont see as many Mach's as you do Cobras. So what kind of plans do you have for your GT?
