Default Speeding ticket

I went to race a BMW from a red light and we hit at least 80, then he turns off and I'm at another red light. Around 30 seconds later or more, a cop pulls up behind me and puts on his cherries. I'm like great...I tell him I saw another guy with a BMW pass me and almost hit this person and he said you were speeding too. I said I wasn't - he said are you calling me a liar, Im like no.

He then hands me two tickets. One for speeding (50 in a 25) and the other one for "racing on a highway".

To be honest, I know I was going way fast, so I don't think he gunned me. Also, how is 25mph a highway? I have a court date, but not required, on 4/27 - but I need advice...

Please help!

EDIT: Also, I asked the cop for a reading of the gun, he said to ask that in court.

Did he write a price on the racing ticket?? Because I got one of those once and he didnt write a price and it ended up only being a careless driving ticket for like 115 bucks.

No, there is no space where you can write a price. On the back however, there are some prices - but that one is not listed.

Oh ok FL tickets have a space for the price on the back. I dont know you'll have to see how much it is for then. Good luck.

I suggest you go to court..

A) Its a pain in the butt, however 90% of the time the DA will reduce the pints, fine amount or drop one of the tickets for just showing up..
B) If the DA is cool but you still feel you want to fight it tell the DA this.. It costs the city more to take this to trial so they might be willing to drop it even more..
C) Becareful because the cop doesn't have to prove much at a municipal level.. If he says he go you speeding then there isn't much you can do..
D) I'm not sure about your state but in WI we do NOT have to show you the radar gun..
E) Attitude is everything.. Some cops have no sense of humor.. But if you cool and come clean with a smile then he might just write you for a seatbelt ticket and let you go..

Wish you luck...

Generally 25mph over the posted limit is considered reckless driving (alabama anyway and a few other states I know). You said you were 50 in a 25 mph zone or thats what the officer said. Also the Supreme Court has ruled that cops (i am one) don't have to show the locked in speed of a trap they catch. Twigbert is right, if you have a good attitude about the whole thing when u go to court the DA will most likely lower the charge and/or fine. A word of advice (not as a dick but as a fellow mustang owner) don't tell the officer that pulls you over what the other guy did, that just pisses them off. He had a reason to stop you. You said you were going way to fast. Racing on a highway is just the way the title of the law reads. The law covers all public roadways. But it sounds to me like you got a pretty good break considering you didnt get a reckless operation/driving ticket instead of speeding. Alot of states fines are set by the courts and are not given to the officers themselves. you'll just have to go to court. When I was younger (17 yoa) i got a ticket for 80 in a 55, I had the option of fine, trial, or plead guilty. I plead guilty to speeding and requested the community service option. Kinda sux when youre doing it but in the long run its great because you dont get any points on your license and it shouldnt reflect on your insurance. That was Maryland (theyre strict). Anyway good luck to you, let me know what happens.

Just go to court and plead guilty. I had one for careless driving and I went to court and plead guilty, and the fine was reduced from $120.00 to $75.00. Seems like it was the right thing to do.
