Ok this kinda long so bare with me.

I dropped my GF off after a movie and I was on my way home down the local drag. I rolled through the yellow light and saw a late 80's early 90's red Camaro waiting to go and didnt think twice about it. Well about 4 blocks down the road I see the Camaro catching up (From the head lights). Well the road is 2 lanes each way and the road we were on spits into a "Y" so he punches it and flys past me to get in front of me. So I'm like ok rofl gas is 3.20 have fun idiot. I did see/hear he had exhaust work and it was a RS+ with a 305 (Terrible engine when stock). So I'm like ok well I'm not going to to speed to catch him, if we hit a light I'll race him. Well lucky me about 5 blocks down we hit a light together, so were watching the lights and I rev it up waiting to drop the hammer and hes hitting the gas making his front end lift then drop. He has his GF in his car and shes laughing and hes got one of those "I'm going to kill you" smiles. Light goes green and I half heartedly launch...it was more like an agressive normal take off. Well he rolls off slow so Im like WTF, then at like 10 mph he punches it so I do also in 1st. By 4th his front is at my door handle and he shut down. So I look over at him and I'm like "Nice man" (Even though it was a sad race , I'm not an ***) then he tells me to "F off". So I'm like WTF ok fine. Then I yell "Oh man thats funny you have a 5.0 and I have a 2.0 and I still won" Then I yell "Wow and I have 1/2 the cylinders, I guess that means it takes double the chevy engine to stay even with a Ford, nice run, no really it wasnt". Then he flicked me off and turned left fast doing a little burnout/pealout to make himself feel better.

Little bit of info, my stang is in the garage with the heads off so I drove my '99 Escort ZX2, 5 speed. It has 2 1/2in exhaust, short shifter, homeade intake, and ram air hood, and a new ECM...I doubt it makes over 160 HP/150 TQ, it also weighs about 2670lbs with me in it. I thought I would just share that cause its funny that the stock 305 is that putiful that it cant even beat a mildy moded freaking escort. Oh also, I have a 40 series flow master muffler with the 2 1/2 in exhaust so it sounds close to a mustang 5.0 untill about 4k RPM's then it gets a little higher pitch. So no I dont have a fart can that sounds like a weed whacker and it isnt riced out at all .

camaro 305's and RS's were SLOOOOOW. i think thats why they had to use the LS1 in the 98+ models to compensate for the crappyness of those cars. good kill in ur escort lol

 

I ran a 12.0 1000ft in my bolt on carbed 305 firebird. not so bad.

 

sounded like an auto, he didnt even have a shift kit, there was a really long pause between gears. If he had a shift kit it would have helped a decent amount. But ya 305 Camaros are really slow, but if you buy heads/cams/exahust and get a shift kit they can be decent engines somewhat like a 302 with mods, but in stock form they are HORRIBLE.

 

yea agreed. my friend had a stock trans am with a 305. yuck, i think i can run faster than that thing.

i know im one ot talk with a v6 but i BEAT him in my v6.

 

The STOCK 305 F-bodies are the slowest pieces of **** on the planet, I've destroyed two or three in my lifetime with my six-shooter.

Nice run, and I believe it. A kid at my school has an 87 Maro with the 305 in it, and he gets beat on by the beaners and their rimmed Hondas, lol. Really sad too, I like the late eighties camaro's.

 

late 80's early 90's rs was a 2.8 v 6. you wouldnt have been in the same zip code with a 5.0

 

RS and RS+ have a V8 option, heres some engine specs for the years and trim look around 89-90

Stock camaros with 305s from that body model are lucky to break into the 15's man and since he went from a 10 mph roll he has a big torque advantage over me in the lower RPM's . My Zx2 ran a 15.3 at the track last time and the V6 Camaros run like 17-18's in the 1/4.

So unless he had a V6 with a S/C under the hood or spayed nitrous it was a 305, because a 350 with exhaust might have creeped/slow walk away from me.

 

he would have done better than that with a 350...L98's had 245hp and 345 lb-ft of torque
