Default The BIG race

Hey guys the track opens up next week and my friend called me out. I've never raced at a track before. We have the fastest stang's around here and its been a highly anticipated race. Its just 1/8th mile and any tips would be GREATLY appriciated.

Thanks

How fast are those Stangs? Tips, tips, ....., wait for green, step on gas, use sticky tires, aim in the forward direction, that's all I can think of.

Not sure what they run. We are both going to be running street tires.

looks like you might have the advantage. make sure you take a helmet! you should definitely be quicker than 14.0 and most tracks require a helmet if you're quicker than 14.0 let some air out of your street tires, down to 20 psi or so. don't try to launch at 5,000 rpm, make some test runs first leaving at 1,500 or so to see if you blow off the tires. don't worry about using 5th gear, hell in the 1/8 you might only need 2nd gear and then 3rd after the finish line. make sure you both get some practice runs in before you have the big race! also ask the track official in the lanes what you have to do to line up for a grudge race. sometimes they tell you to line up one behind the other and tell the official at the heads of the lanes you want to race the guy behind you! you can only do this during the test and tune sessions. oh yeah, if you wait to see the green, you'll be late off the line. stage the car as shallow as you can, i.e. just barely roll in to turn on the 2nd stage lite. this will increase your rollout and help your ET a little. concentrate on the last yellow bulb and as soon as if flicks, pop the clutch and let it rip. you can look at the tree as you go by to see if the green or red lite is on! have fun!
