Right now i have a 1989 mustang 5.0 GT 5 spd. with full weight. There is this guy that has an 04 cobra with 481 rwhp and 476 rwtq. How much rwhp will i have to have to keep up or beat him in 89 GT to keep up with his car

It really depends, there is more to a race than sheer HP. I've known of 650+ rwhp cobras that only run 12's. I am willing to bet that if you can make in the area of 350 or so rwhp AND get it to hook you will be able to keep up. This is all assuming he is not hooking all that well.

agreed. When you increase the hp, you have to upgrade the suspension. They go hand in hand.

Funny part is a guy at the local track ran a 12.07 with CAI, midpipe, exhaust, and of course a pulley swap on a 03 Cobra Vert.

The infamous "wheel spin doesn't equal higher trap speeds" He just somehow couldn't get a 650hp Blowzilla Cobra into the 11's?

You will need about 360 - 375 RWHP to keep up if not beat that guy in the cobra if he is running street tires. That cobra is an easy high 11 car if he can hook it. I beat an 500 rwhp 03 cobra by 2 cars a while back when I was making 370 RWHP. He also spun all of 1st gear.
