Finally, a race worth going all out for happen last night on a highway access road. I was in my 02 GT with Built AODe Auto tranny, Forged DSS 4.6 2V short block, with Stage III ported PI Heads, Aftercooled Vortech with 3.25 pulley running 10 psi, a monster P-51 intake, 42lbs injectors, BBK75mm TB, Anderson Power Pipe, ProM 80mm, Complete Exhaust, and a slew of other engine and suspension mods. After getting my Stang tuned yesterday, the Dyno hit 463 RWHP with 441lbs torque.

The opponent: 2006 Z06 and from what I could tell, it had a big cam and modified Exhaust system.

He pulled up next to me and looked at my wheels, made a comment about my Brembo set up, then said my Stang was a just a "nice toy." I told him that I'd beat him in a 1/4 and he said how much do you have on you? I had $123 dollars on me and he laughed. He said if I beat him, he give me 2 to 1 odds. He was very cocky about it. I was alone and he had this hot looking girl chewing gum looking at me with a twinkle in her eye. The thing is I am a woman! And she was flurting with me. That never happen before and it felt strange. Anyway, I reasoned that she added an extra 100lbs or so and that was a disadvantage.

I told him lets do it and we set the parameters. It was 12:30 am. We drove to the light and waited for the green. I set my Autometer Cobalt D-Pic to time my 1/4 mile time.

I hit the brake and rev the engine to 3100 rpm -- just before the wheels would spin. I was already in boost. The Vette was loud and sounded absolutely magnificent.


It was a perfect start. My Mickey Thompson 275x40 Drag Radials hooked up beautifully. We were head to head out of the box. When he hit second and he lost a foot but began to make up ground and started inching past me. I thought I had a chance to make up ground in high RPM, but didn't. I lost by 1 car. I took a deep breath and pulled over. My heart was beating maddly and I was out of breath. It was quite a rush. But I lost and it was a fair race. I lost money and I felt bad.

We both pulled over and the three of us got out of our cars and I paid him. We spoke for several minutes and tried to ask me out in so many words. But I wasn't interested and rebuffed him. As they turned to their car, Something surprised me. His girlfriend discretely slipped me something in my hand. It was 2 Onehundred dollar bills.

This morning when I took out the bills from my jeans, I noticed a phone number on them. Crazy, this whole thing was crazy.

i bet if you had been at 12/14psi, you coulda beat him in all honesty. sux that you lost, but sounds like an AWESOME race. how accurate is the "timer" that you have ?? cuz it "has" you at 11.07 @ 134....that 'Vette MIGHT have been a HIGH 10 sec car, if not, just a REALLY low 11-sec car. which, either way, is FAST for a street car imho. nice race. sux that you lost. but, hey, you lost $123, got a phone #, but, then, actually made $77. not a bad night. haha. any pics of the whole car, not just the engine shot ??

 

Nice death. Up the boost alittle and I think you would take him. So what are you gonna do about the girl giving you her number? LOL.

 

I really hate to be the one who says this but, your story sounds really really far fetched. If it is 100% true then nice death, otherwise you should look into a second carrer as a writer

 

Why is it so far fetched JD? She says she dynoed at 463RWHP. That would put her a tad over 500hp at the crank. The 2006 ZO6 is rated at 505hp at the crank, so the hp between her car and the ZO6 are pretty close. The obvious advantage the Vette has over her is weight and aerodynamics. She admitted the Vette won. If she would have said she beat the Vette by a car length or more then I would definitely not believe it either.
But on another note, I was hoping that at least one person would have raised the BS flag. I was thinking that if it had been a guy then BS flags would have been raised left and right. But since it is a chica (no offense to you janine, you do have a nice car, and it sounds like you are very knowledgable about it too)... well, we all know how some of the guys on this sight are when it comes to the ladies. It's cool that you aren't one of those guys that like to hang from the girls' private parts everytime they post. [8D]

 

White, well there is like 0% chance a mustang wit 460rwhp will trap at 134. However those things are not accurate sooo take that for what its worth.


If that last part is true that crazy... what did he want a three-some?

 

It does sound like a Penthouse Forums story almost....How exactly did you mark 1/4 mile off, and decide the end of the race ??? That was left out of a very "wordy" street race story

i know what the meter says you ran but have you ever actually ran at the track?

i assume you asked him what was done to his car since you got out and talked, and i saw you wrote it had a big cam and exhaust. that would be making alot more than 460 to the wheels and again the weight factor. he maybe couldn't drive that well and thats why only won by a car length. i do understand going up against a big powered built up auto would be hard but i def would see the vette with the advantage. good story, don't know if i believe you to the fullest but good story.

^^^ After re-reading the original post and seeing what you said about the Vette having a big cam and exhaust, I now realize that it wouldn't have been nearly that close of a race unless the driver really sucked. We all know what a simple cam swap can do to those LS type engines.
Still no denying she has a nice car... and can write one hell of a good story!
