Let me set the stage.

Last week a guy at work bought an RX-8, ever since then I have been seeing them all over the place. I have wanted to race them but haven't had the chance until late last nite/this morning.

I went out with my girl, her sis and brother, and V8Killer to play some lazer tag. After we went out to eat minus V8killer. Dropped my girl and her family off, It's late now almost 11:30. I get a sudden burst of energy when I get in my car, I love driving it, even more after driving a RAV4. So instead of going home, I decide to go downtown to see what was going on. Made a couple of laps, typical stuff, high school students with riced out every thing from 88 Hyandi hatches to SS's with aluminum wings. Got a couple of thumbs up for my exhaust and the look of the car. No RX-8's.

I decide to head home because know one was biting for a race. Instead of driving down main st I decided to cut over to a parallel road that is 2 lanes wide and never very much traffic that time of night. No sooner did I get to the first set of lights, did a car come flying up on me almost locking the breaks up coming to the line.

I look over....SWEET RX-8!. The guy looks over gives a typical ricer nod down the street, then adds the cut throat signal. I look in surprise but do the "Who me?" thing, give the nod. He starts reving like crazy. I just watch the lights on the crossing street. They turn yellow I REV up to 2200 and wait. Light goes green I got a decent launch the road was a little slicker than I thought with the rain. Got ahead anyways. His head lights are right in the corner of my eye. I pull second the car spins the tire and steps sideways in the lane a little. Even doing that I started to pull head. Once the car hooked I took off, putting 3 cars on him by the time I pull third. Continued to walk until shut down at 75mph.

Stopped at the next light. He finally gets there, I roll down my window to ask about his car. He freaks out, "You want to rub it in B*tch!" "NO" i said, "I wanted to ask if that is an auto or a manual". Not usually being a rude person the guy just rubbed me the wrong way, so I add. "But I am not now, You pick a fight and lose and you are going to be a whiney little b*tch." he freaks out now. "I am going to f**k you up, f**k you up man!!" Now he is screaming this over and over, reving his motor like a mdaman.

Out of the corner of my eye I see a crusier coming down the side street. Light goes green, I stay, the RX-8 takes off smoking the tires threw the intersection. Gets to the other side of the intersection throws the car sideways blocking both lanes. He starts getting out og the car. Right then the crusier thows on the Blues. The guy freaks gets back in and tries to take off. But as soon as he gets straight on the road, another crusier stops infront of him.

Now I am thinking I am screwed! The cop flags me up and over to the side of the road. The cop was pretty cool. Did the standard procedure, then start to talk to me. He asked if I was going to race him and stuff. I said "No, he pulled up and was yelling he is going to F' me up and stuff, light went green and that's when I saw you." He said "okay the guy is pretty worked up and swearing worse than a sailor. " Gives me back my license and reg and lets me go. As I drive away teh guy starts yelling at me again, the cops throw him at the hood of the crusier and put on the cuffs.

I got lucky, this guy was pissed! But either way I wasn't impressed at all with the RX-8's. Give it a turbo or two and then they would be cool. Finally raced one an killed it, let's just hope I don't run into him again.

 

that is crazy man.. those RX-8 guys think that they are fast but those cars are SLOW.. they have good handling but no torque... and that guy was probably stoned or something.. we have to be carefull who we race in the streets... anyway good kill!

Awsome story. I hate rice rockets. All they do is put on a loud annoying muffler, take off the hubcaps and add a big non effictive wing on the back and think its a race car. They are idiots if you ask me!

 

if you put a functional wing on an RX8, it'd help as they are RWD..

 

Well written. It's nice to see someone else, besides the handful of us on this forum, that can form coherent sentences. I guess you can call it a nice kill b/c the guy was an ***, I heard those cars are dogs though.

That was an insane story... Kept getting better, That mother****er pulled a "Smokey and the Bandit"- turning his car sideways, and blocking you off ! ! damn!

anyways, im surprised the cop didnt sense all the heat off of your car; or maybe the smell of your tires when you slowed down. Maybe the cops are different where you live, but down here in florida majority are ******.

Great story though man- keep burning those imports.

 

racing in the rain with rwd is teh stupid. good kill though. i am a rotary fan but i hate the "8". they are over rated by about 30 hp. mazda recalled them.

 

I believe it had stopped raining and the roads still had the dampness from it...

I don't believe Mazda recalled them, the last I heard they were going to offer a turbo-kit relatively cheap for RX-8 owners.
