Will 4.10's help oe hurt me?
I have an 89 mustang 5.0 with basic bolts ons, nos 150 dry shot and 3.73 gears.
I was thinking of getting a 28" tall tire and taking it to the strip. I was told that it will run low 12's at 113-115 mph and that it will bog with the 3.73's launching at 4000+ rpm. Is this true? What rpm will i be trapping at with 3.73's?

Are you going with a true slick? Honestly, I would try it first with your current gearing.. 4.10's in a T5 is very steep if you drive it anywehre but on the track.. Unless you did a swap to a T45 or something like a C6 that might be a pain in the *** to drive..
how do 4.10s make it a pain in the *** to drive? maybe you shift a little earlier, but once your in overdrive you barely ever need to downshift. and starting off in 1st gear would be much easier i would think.
Dude, this isnt a sn95. 1st gear in a true T-5 is VERy steep, you'd literally be shifting out of first at like 10 mph and out of second at 40 ...at liek 6k rpm. 4.10's IMO in ANY stang is stupid unless its a track only car. I say leave your 3.73's get a normal 10.5" slickmaybe 22" tall, you should have no problems at all. Also, the taller the tire the more power it takes to turn it, so basically youd want the smallest possible tire you can get. Itll reduce rotating mass, making it spin up faster, so therefore itll increase your acceleration, basic physics. Its the same principal of how F1 and indy cart lite cars can make 1500HP out of a 1.8L, basically they lighten everything up and make it spin REALLY fast.

I dont know about the difference tire size makes on gears... lol, just know from my experience what it was like with 3.73's in an fox vs 4.10's in my SN.
who gives a damn how the tranny is geared, and how often you have to shift?
its a performance cars..go with 4.10s...you have a 5 speed..youll be fine.
hell, i drove my car with a 3 speed auto and 4.88 gears, with 26.5" tires.
