Tach question
I know this is about Street/Strip racing stories, and not usually a place for asking questions, but my question has to do with drag racing, so I hope it's alright to ask where the "experts" on the subject hang out.
When I bought my Mustang, it came with the AutoGauge Lite tach you see in the pic. Since I'm not the original buyer of the tach, that means I didn't get the instructions on how it works. I understand that once you set the tach where you want, it's supposed to shine the lite in your eyes when you reach that set rpm, meaning it's time to shift. My problem is, I don't know how to set it. I've tried different ways to set it, but it just doesn't work like it's supposed too.
Anyone here have one like this? If so, how do you set it up?
BTW-the pic upload feature is a cool one! Not many forums have that!

Not exactly sure on that gauge, but the autometer lights I have used in the past used RPM pills. I never had a tach with the light just the light. Probably going to be pulling or pushing on the reset **** to adjust. I recommend setting the light about 500 rpm before you really want to shift. Until you get use to it you need it for reaction time, you will be slow to react at first. As you get better brign it closer to red line. I had one oin my honda and I was able to nail the shift every time using that method. Never overreved or shortshifted the car.
Good luck!
BTW does it come on when you rev the motor up to or near redline?

Then once the engine gets to that rpm, the light comes on, and you shift (at least you better
)BTW, the needle on the Autotach does not move with the engine rpm's. The needle is there for you to adjust where you want to set the shift point. Least that's what I was told by former owner. I just can't remember what you're supposed to do to set it [:@]
Umm the needle is suppose to move. Chance are they never finsihed the install. yes you use the needle to set the shift lite activation RPM but it doesn't work if the tach doesn't read the motor RPM's it should go up and down with the motor REVS. Look on autometers website and they usually have instructions on their guages.
I have a feeling that it hasn't been completely installed. The green wire needs to be hooked up to the tach signal in the engine compartment for the most accurate reading.

Hey!! Thanks for the tip on going to the AutoMeter website
Don't know why I didn't think of it myself (Doh!) Brain cramp, I guess
I found the instruction sheet for my gauge, and now know what I was doing wrong
Thanks again!
