My first race!
I've had my car for about two months now and haven't had a chance to race anyone... until tonight. There was a Trans Am that was cruising around town and seemed to think he was fast. I asked him and we went out of town and raced what I guess was just a little over an eighth of a mile(4 utility poles) I have an auto and the first time I let the car shift on it's own. That time I beat him by inches. The second time I shifted manually and waited until 6000 RPMs before shifting each time. I beat him by 1-2 car lengths that time. He couldn't say enough about how impressed he was and didn't believe I was stock except for the exhaust. He said that he hasn't lost many races and has never lost one to a stock car. I aksed him what he had in his and it was a LT1 with a aftermarket exhaust. What is an LT1? I've heard you guys talking about LS1s. Is the LT1 easier to beat? Did I do anything impressive? I raced with the traction control on and revving up to 2000 RPMs, then dumping the brake. Should I have used a different strategy? You gotta help me out here - my last car was a cavalier!
You're funny[sm=innoc.gif]
Congrats on your first race.
The LT1's are the easiest ones to beat. They came in the earlier Camaro's and Trans-Am's and also the Trans-Am formula's.
It's the LS1's that you have to watch out for, they are a little bit harder to beat cause of the beefed up motors (300+). However, because of their weight, they are not THAT fast.
It took a beefed up 5.0 that I have to be able to have the bragging rights that I do (8URWS6) It's the order code that the Trans-Am had for the top-of-the-line V8 (LS1 300+). I will never forget that time I nailed and LS1, that's a great feeling.
As far as your strategy... looks like you on tap, but I would turn the traction control off.
Congrats on your first race.

I've never had a problem with them[sm=happy046.gif]

Because of their weight they aren't THAT fast? Put on the suit my friend, all the LS1 guys are gonna have a blast with that statement! The LS1 versions of the F-Body aren't THAT heavy compared to their LT1 brothers, the weight difference is a non issue in fact. I'm far from a fan boy for the LS1 folks but come on, lets be accurate at least.

****** his head and listens* I sense a great disturbance in the Force......as if thousands of LS1 owers suddenly cried out in anger and vengence.....
I fear begun, the Flame Wars have.
The headlights on LT1's are open, and small retangular, and ls2(98+) are bubbly looking and sealed?
Im interesting in the look differences between them myself.........waits to Gm guys to kick in here

LS1s debuted around 97-98, they are in the newer looking camaros and trans-am. I haven't seen the LT-1 motor itself in a while so I forgot what they look like but they look pretty similar. Come to think of it the LS1 and 3V 4.6 have a very similar looking intake plenum.
HP & torque stock
LT1 285hp 330 lb-ft
LS1 305-325hp 345 lb-ft
I think those number are pretty accurate with the most powerful F-bodies being the WS6 T/A and Camaro SS. They're not slow at all.
Nice kill on a T/A especially on your first race both times[sm=shades.gif]

I leased a 1998 Z-28 which was the first year of the LS1 in the Camaro. It had a 6 speed. I could lay a 10 foot stripe from 1-2, bark them 2-3, and chirp the tires 3-4, stock. My '06 Mustang GT is an automatic [ old knees now ] , so it's hard to compare. The fastest car I've personally owned was an '03 Cobra. It would beat any Camaro and my current Mustang. However, the new Mustang's suspension is better than the Cobra's even with the Cobra's IRS. The new platform and suspension is solid.
