They are fast but only high end. I think they look cool I would just be very careful about it. I don't know about the reliability of them.

230hp 159(i think) ft/lbs they handle great. They feel quick but are game for 99+ GT's, theres been a few killed by 99-04 sixers in here.
The autos have less HP than a split port sixer and torque for that motor is in the pisser. They are track and auto-cross cars, not for the strip. But they are peppy(the manuals) and look damn good IMO. Plus they handle like they are on rails, mm-mm good.

Remember this is someones girlfriend wanting this! Most women (not all though) I know don't give a rats a$$ about performance and if she is like the ones I know she is mainly in it for the looks. Yea, it might weird looking but it is a total chick car. If she isn't used to driving fast cars this will be plenty quick for her with very good handling to boot!

I currently have a 1993 rx-7 which is not reliable if not taken care of because of the turbos. The main reason they went na with the
rx-8 is because the heat from the turbos is what blows the apex seals. That being said, everyone whom I have talked to with the rx-8 has no problems with it. It is not the fastes straight line car, but when taken to the track it is very good. If she likes the car and isnt in it for the speed then I would say get it. The only complaint I know of is that the gas mileage isnt that good, rotarys have a poor effieciency. The other thing is that I dont know if you need to add oil every 1K like you do in the rx-7. If you would like some more infromation I can get it for you from my other forums and then send it to you. My email is tgigliotti@gmail.com Hope this helps you.

she gettin and auto or stick
there is a major hp difference between the two with the auto having much less.
also there is NO torque in these cars, so if she is gettin a stick it needs to wound tight to move so will probably be busy rowin gears. not a car you can easily put in 5th and have power to pass with.
handle great and stop decently.
not my type of style
rotary motors of the past aren't very reliable, unfortunately i'm not sure how reliable the na rotaries are.
