Well, I'm certainly no "hippie" but I definitely consider myself something of a "leftie" and am certainly not hostile to environmental concerns.
But worrying about modern high-performance vehicles makes little sense. For one, US autos today produce less than 1% of the pollutants they did in 1964, before modern pollution controls. On the other hand, SUV's, heavy trucks and other large vehicles are allowed to produce many times over the amount of pollution produced by the typical automobile. Since the technology has now been available for decades to make these vehicles far more "environmentally friendly", an easy way to get rid of the majority of smog concerns in large cities is to simply reduce emissions produced by SUV's and other heavy vehicles to the same level allowed by automobiles, taking into account the larger engines and higher horsepower needed to power such vehicles.
In addition your, shall we say, "gas-guzzling behavior"(
) is actually helping, in a teeny-tiny itsy-bitsy little way, to drive gasoline demand and gas prices upward. And since all experts pretty much agree that the only real way to wean America from its oil dependency is for prices to exceed what the average American is willing to pay, you are actually doing your part to help the situation.
I would've told her all of the above is she was cute. Otherwise I would've just grinned, revved my motor, and laid down about $20 bucks worth of rubber as I peeled off at maximum velocity...

and high performance engines... usually find their way into trucks... or the same engines from trucks are used in the high performance car.
example: the 351W used in the new GT500, and ford GT came from the F150
I dunno about you guys but after I help the environment by using up all the premium gasoline in my GT I am going to lobby for all gasoline to be made out of endangered species fat.
I think we should start with the dolphins first. I really hate flipper.
From there we can go to the whales "maybe not endangered" but I miss the old whale huntin days. Then we can go on bald eagle fat which we can wipe them out really fast due to the fact that they have almost none.. We can even get all of those no havin job hippies to work the slaughter houses!
Man what DREAM FUELS! Id LOVE to have some Premium Panda ... and some Quaker state Quala bear.

On my way home yesterday I saw this little honda hybrid witha bunch of anti-war, save the manitiees, etc..... thay had like 15 stickers. I got over and the light turned red and we were side by side the girl was flagging me to roll down my window. When I did she said "How can you drive somthing that guzzles so much gas. Your part of the reason the O-zone is dying." I said wow I never thought about it like that your absolutely right. Thanks. When the light turned green I absolutely smoked my tires all the way to third. They drove by and gave me the bird.
