Default need some advise here...

hey guys i am going to the track for the 1st time tommrow. i have an 03 GT automatic with flowmaster AT catback and a k&n drop in filter. my tires are pretty crappy right now, not much tread left on them. now i plan on turning the traction control off, and the OD off. now my buddy is making a big deal about racing me. hes got some $hitty *** tercell that he did a motor swap and a whole bunch of stuff to it with a turbo and stuff, no joke he put like 8 grand into a 1 thousand dollar car. hes making a big deal about racing me and he thinks he will beat me, i dont really know right now its actually pretty quick, but i want to make sure i beat him because hes kind of an idiot about these kind of things. anyone got any tips for going to the track. give me some advise on how to launch and stuff...also do i just hit the gas and hold it to the floor the whole time or is there any trick to this..thanks

Um.....floor it.

Depending on how much tread you have left, you might want to do a burnout if you dont have very much. If there still abot 3/32" of tread then dont bother.
I was talkin with a guy earlier from the ford dealer whos got a cobra, thinkin 2000 or so, anyway he was tellin me he launches at about 6500 RPM. He was tellin me that the mod motors, relatively speaking, have no torque so you really have to spin em up pretty high to get a good launch, otherwie they fall flat on their face. Other than that, when the light turns green let off the brake and gun it.

well depending on tires either warm them up or go around the water box. with an auto i would say hold the break untill you are just about to spin. As soon as you see the second yellow GO!!! and just hold it to the floor..

Go there. go AROUND the water box, do a decent burnout, line up first. It's always good to pre-stage and stage first. Set the RPM's to where you want, by holding the brake, let the back end of the car start to squat and you should be good there, release the brake between the 2nd and 3rd yellow light, 3/4 throttle until you have absolute traction, then floor it and stay straight.
