Default GT vs. Lightning

I have an 02' GT with Flowmasters and Eibach springs. My friend has an 01' Lightning with Flowmasters. We are planning on racing sometime. I'm going to need a few more bolt-ons to beat him. Nitrous is not an option though. Gears will probably be my first choice. Also I will remove the air silencer and get a K&N cone filter. What else should I get to outrun his truck? I also need lots of practice driving because I've only been driving a straight drive for a couple of months.

I beat a 99' with my car. O/r X and flows on a rebuilt motor from ford is all I had...

But will that be enough? I might need a little more. How much power will an off-road H-Pipe give me? Remember, the cheaper the mod, the better, because I have to get these mods fast.

01' Lightnings are faster than 99's. They got several upgrades.

4.10's and some drag radials and run him from a dig. You'd be suprised, lightnings have alot of power but are extremely heavy. I think you'd hold your own from a dig.

from a stop you might get him through 2nd gear but as soon as he gets traction that SC will really be able to put power to the wheels... this should be interesting

that's not true, well i have beaten a couple of stock lightnigs, they have torque but they are heavy, if he has just the flowmasters you can get it, of course i have respect for those things, my friend has one with ported plenum, cai, pulley, tuner, exhaust, ported heads and some other stuff with mickey thompsons et street he killed a c6 from the hole and a 40 punch now his valve spring broke so he is rebuilding the engine with jdm heads, and installing cams and ported s/c, that thing is going to be nasty... anyway just try and also depends on the driver, good luck

hmmm... Looking at that 01 lightning it is saying it runs the 1/4 mile at 13.9

Are they that much slower than the newer ones?

A prayer. But seriously, You're gonna need some of the basic bolt ons to beat him. An o/r mid pipe, headers and udps and maybe a jlt cai or rai would be a good start. Im assuming youre talking about a 1/4 mile race and not a highway race. Youll need some really good tires and since you have springs some control arms would only help too. Gears will probably be the biggest help (4.10s if you do very little highway driving). You could throw in cams, throttle body, intake plenum, electric water pump etc. But if youre a good driver the exhaust mods, gears, suspension and tires should be enough to beat him. Is this lightning stock aside from the flowmaster exhaust? Are you auto or manual? A steeda tri ax or mgw short throw shifter will really improve your shifting.
