I only wish. My friends 06 GT walks on me just as bad. The guy with the 90GT just ordered the Trick flow kit for his car so if it was bad before, it'll be worse now.

I live in canada. My local mustang shop is unable to give me any help either. They said that they setup another car with the same setup as mine and got 320hp at the flywheel. If mines got 200 I'd be surprised. seriously my sentra spec-v will beat this car in a race.

So now I have to ask the stupid question. Are you positive that all 8 cylinders are firing?

Wouldn't it idle like crap? My valves are clacking like hell still. When I adjusted them, the intake valves would go 1/4 - 1/2 turn easy, but the exhaust would barely get to 1/4 turn and the bolt would be tightened down as far as it could go. So you figure I might need longer pushrods? The clacking is real loud and gets worse as you rev it. They are brand new lifters. Sound is from both sides.

Ok, I think I found your problem. I looked at your cam specs again and noticed that the cam that you have in that link is for 62- up 302's EXCEPT 82-up HO's. Is your motor an HO or non HO?
At any rate, you can still use this cam but you will need flat tappet lifters and longer pushrods. Otherwise, youll need to get an HO cam. That would actually explain a lot, especially the valvetrain noise youre experiencing.

I wish it was that easy. The block is a 1975 302, flat tappet. I just did a compression test and had 145-147 all across the board. Like I said it idles great, rev's fine (aside from the noise), doesn't smoke at all, plugs are all tan coloured, no vaccuum leaks, timing at 14*, plugs are the same as a 1997 explorer (that's what the GT40P's came from right?), I am real confused right now.

Ok, what timing gears are you using? There are some out there thatll have 3 slots that you can set, 1 is factory timing, 1 is 4* advanced and the other is 4* retarded. But before you tear off the timing cover, change your timing. I had a similar probelm with my '79 stang, which was flat tappet. Anyway, I got a cam for it, it was a wolverine/blue racer cam .496/.510 lift, 280/292 duration. Anyway, when I set my timing to the factory spec, if I remember right it was like 10 or 12*, my car would stop pulling at 3500, literally. It would rev all the way to 5500, but it would fall flat on its face at 3500. So I just tuned it by ear. Tune it to throttle response, when theres no throttle lag, youre dead nuts on. On my '79 (I think I spun the outer ring of my balancer), it said that my timing was set to 5* ATDC when I checked it with a timing light. But it would pull like crazy. As for your valve train noise, it would seem that it would have something to do with that low oil pressure of yours. Silly question, but is there enough oil in the motor? What weight are you running in it, shouldnt be any less than 10w30. Just throwing out some ideas.

Oil is 5w30, I will change it today to 10w30. When I did the cam the lifters on the drivers side took an hour to remove. I had to use pliers to get them out. It seemed as though they had swollen and wouldn't come out of the hole. I have heard of this before but is it really normal?

What lifters are in there? Are they rollers?

Flat tappet..
Just removed the valve cover and ran the engine. It took 5-10 secs for oil to appear. Should it be squirting out of there or just kinda flowing lesuirely? My oil pressure guage said it was at about 55psi.

Decided to stop screwing around and removed the cam. It isn't a pretty sight. The drivers side lifters are beat all to hell. Looks like someone took a hammer and gave it to them like a red headed stepchild. Passenger side is great, not a mark. All the noise was coming from the drivers side. Yes is is a flat tappet cam, but I wonder if it was a factory defect, or did I do something looey?
