I Got Ambushed By a 350Z - WTS?
[:@] Okay, so I've had my black GT stick for almost a whole week now and finally, yesterday on the way home, a guy rolls up alongside me in a gray 350Z and gets cocky. I was kinda' confused at first because we were rolling along at about 45 mph and I could hear his buzzing Z over my radio and exhaust. As I was sizing up the car (big wheels and tires) the guy downshifts, nails it, and I did the same perhaps just a hair behind him. In short, he smoked me big time! [:-] That sucker sounded like a Ferrari or something! He pulled a car length on me almost immediately and I didn't even give chase after the 3-4 shift because it was obviously futile. I was darned suprised to say the least, but given the really big pipes his car had and the extremely cool exhaust note, I'm taking some solace in the fact that I don't think there was any way in hell that Z was stock. Anybody know what a 350Z is supposed to be capable of? I've got some goodies ordered from Brenspeed already, so Brent's gonna' make me a little more of a "playa" in the near future. Wasn't a glorious first combat, however! Still having fun though! I've also noticed the 'Stang seems to do a helluva lot better from a standing stop than it does from a rolling start. Honestly, I've got an '06 Magnum R/T as well, and I think it's just about as quick from a 35-40 mph roll as the Mustang is, but from a dead stop, the GT is definitely a lot faster. Any advice on rolling start contests? (Not that a mature adult like myself would do this kinda' thing again). Later guys! [8D]
It's hard to say what all he had done to the Z. There was a comparison in motor trend in the past year or two with the Z vs. the GT and to be honest, I don't remember the outcome, but it was really close. Within a .5 sec in the 1/4 close.
There are turbo kits available for the Z's so if he pulled on you that much from the get-go, I think it's safe to say it wasn't stock. However... a Z with a good tune, exhaust, intake and some other go fast goodies might pull like that too so you never know.

Depending if its on juice or boosted, doubt the engine was "stock". If he was boosted, then what kind of kit? Next time look for a fmic, if possible. My cousin has a boosted 04 350Z, on his setup (forgot) he has about 400-450 to the wheels on his daily driver.
That dood was looking for someone to smoke and it just happened to be you. Sorry to hear that dood, it happens to everyone.
GL next time!

No way he was stock. Somebody where I work has a stock 350Z and I could just barely take him when I was stock. The two cars were very close. With my CIA and tune for 91 octane I can now take him easily.
This is disapointing to hear you guys losing to 350zs they are not very fast and stock for stock a GT will destroy a Z. IMO somebody needs shifting lessons or that Z was turbod because even with nitrous a GT could still take one.

[&:] Appreciate the support guys, I'm not losing sleep over it, I just was kinda' surprised at how quick that thing was. My first box from Brent arrived today - GREAT SERVICE BRENT! When the others get here, I'll get a little evil with the GT. Still don't think I'll go looking for that particular Z again, I'm tellin' you guys, it sounded like a Formula I car. As for a stock GT beating a Z with nitrous, I don't think that's viable in our universe. All things being equal, nitrous works wonders, until it melts a piston; never a fan of the stuff. I've also got a Road Runner that runs mid-twelves, so shifting lessons aren't neccesary, as an old fart of 42, I've been doing this stuff since 1980, generally with stick cars. I'm not crazy about the long throw of the stock shifter, but I'll remedy that in the coming months as well. There will be other battles, I'm just gonna' size up the competition a little better from here on out!
Some cocky Asian guy had a blue 05 350Z with turbo at the track on friday night. He thought he was the shizzel...
He got a real good view of my back bumper all the way down the track!
I think he was very dissapointed - assumed I had a stock GT.
Smoked rice is nice!!!!!!
