vtec works great...nothing i can say about it.

my friends 5.0 got a swap at 76k and my other friends 4.6 got a swap at 98k

I pulled a 5.0 from my 92LX back when I was doing the total restore/mod. It had 130,000 on it and ran great, didn't even use oil. My Dad owns a 66 Ford F100 with a worn out 302 in it. We are in the process of restoring his old truck, so i donated the old 5.0 for rebuild. Upon tearing the motor down an putting a mic on the cyls, crank journals, etc. Everything was within spec with little wear. The rod bearings were showing a little brass. After a hone job, were putting it back together with fresh bearings, rings, Trick Flow cam, new valves and valve springs and sticking a holley 600 on an RPM air gap that came off another 302 I had.

5.0s don't generally die at 76K. Early 4.6s do die at 98K due to a poor oil pickup tube design by Ford. The pickup clogs due to an excessively tight screen and starves the motor for oil. The first sign is collapsed (ticking) lifters and then the idiot light comes on...too late.

newer 4.6s are more relaible beyond 100K.

02 civic si,

PLEASE don't start talking crap about mustangs. Thanks.

yea the guy who did the motor swap on the 4.6 said the same thing that you just did. It was a 99 and he swapped in an 02. I don't think that the 125 shot my friend had helped the motor keep running lol

so my 5.0 should die since it has 156,000 miles on it even though it dosnt use oil or smoke?

im just not a fan of civics my friend has a 98 wit a t3 turbo and tune (4k total) and hes makin just about the same hp as me and i have more torque. we raced and he pulls about a car on me but im at his door the entire time. its a quick car but throw the same amount of money into a 5.0 and it will rape. just my 2 cents.

4door has a fast little car tho. wat size turbo?

supercharge it so he can make wat 200hp at 8000 rpms?

vtec's are probably the most over-rated engines right now. every high school kid THINK there fast.

people KNOW mustangs are fast
They're not overrated. Ignorant kids just think they're awesome.

low displacement B series engines on boost are strong little fuggers though.

A Type R engine will produce 185-197 hp in the first place. (Civic Type R, Integra Type R respectively)

7 psi from a Vortech on the lower end bolt on B series engine will net roughly 200 to the wheels. Hell, fourdoor... the JRSC will net me 193ish wheel hp on an otherwise bone stock b16a2. Sure it's not as efficient as an X brand turbo kit at 7 psi, but INSTANT BOOST is intriguing.

On a Type R engine you could see 210-220 to the wheels easily. Putting that power into a 2200-2500 lb car will stand to do some damage. usually in the tune of mid/low 13s. So I don't exactly see how that's "overrated", but your opinion is your uneducated opinion and all.

I take it a lot of people here have never ridden in one of these cars, they're hard as hell to launch, but they can be blindingly quick on the top end through 3rd gear (depending on the gearbox).

Nice kills though, it's not really surprising a minor bolt on GT vs a swapped EX.

hondas are quick due to the power/ weight ratio. like streetbikes. flordia turbo central has a bad *** si. but usally like said up top they have bad *** pulling power on the rolls on runs.

+1 for the GT35R! I love that turbo, make sure you go with the .82 or better a/r or its gonna choke itself. That's on a 2.5L anyway, I don't know how it would differ on the 2 liter. It's going to be really hard to spool that thing on your motor though, you might consider a small shot of nitrous to help out in those situations that you need it.

This is a little off topic, but let me show you the dyno chart of my car on the stock 2.5L motor, with the GT35R and all supporting mods to give you an idea of the lag. Now, keep in mind that I still believe my car began losing compression on the dyno (it was leaking oil on the ground below the dynojet hubs), hence the somewhat low numbers. Most guys with a healthy stock motor will see about 440whp on pump gas with this exact same setup.

On a 2.0L, I'd imagine it would be much worse, but maybe manageable with your high redline. I personally can't wait to see what this turbo does on my bored 2.8L ^_^

As for Hondas being fast or slow, I think it would be cool as hell to have a stripped, boosted Civic hatch for autocross or road course racing. The power to weight, as stated before, makes a huge difference, especially when you start flinging the steering wheel around and blast out of turns. FWD does suck, but it can be dealt with. As far as Civics for drag cars, it can be done but it would certainly not be my first choice. It's so much easier to make an engine faster when it has more displacement. i.e. the LS1 cammed and nitroused.

For the amount of money that has been invested in my car, I could probably have built an older Fox body mustang up and have it in the 9s. Honestly heh. BUT, that of course wasn't my goal for this build. I enjoy owning a car that has all of the comforts of a normal car and then some (adjustable in-car suspension, car PC w/ touchscreen, system, all seats, A/C and interior, etc.), can transport a bunch of my friends around, and is so fast it pulls the blood out of your legs when you mash the go pedal (in sun, rain, or snow =p)!

More power to the stripped out Honda crew, I just really can't imagine driving around a rattlepile 24/7 no matter how fast it is hehe. Besides, it's not cool when the bitches ask where the rest of your car went when you're trying to pick them up!

I think that's why I like Civic4doorsleeper's car so much, because it is a sports car with a bit of comfort left in it ^_^
