Default M3 and Trans am

so yesterday im coming home from school and i pull up to a light and see a white M3. It was kinda older prob late 90's, i dono much about bmw. but when the light turns green im goin a long and shift at about 2500 rpms, but the m3 takes off. so i punch it, and hes maybe 5 car lengths in front. So i pass him goin about 65-70 then shut it down. But today same thing happens, i pull up to a light and see a trans am. light turns green and he takes off. but i didnt shift at 2500, i went all the way to about 6100 then shifted. At that time i hear his supercharger winding up and im like o crap. Then the guy just smokes my ***. hes prob got 3-4 lengths before i shut it down.i pull up next to him at the light. Then i asked him wut hes got. i forgot wut kind of sc he had, but he that and i think he said cams too. i dono i couldnt really understand him. then he asked wut i had. I was embarresed to say all stock. so i guess its time to put down some more hp sometime soon

So was the M3 actually going or u flew by him after he shut down? We own a 2004 E46 M3 but i know a little bit about the E36 (1995-99) m3's as well... They are light, quick, and nimble. my friend has a 350z thats got twin turbos now but when he was N/a he got raped by my other friend's 2000 M coupe (same engine as E3 M3). Back then he had around 300wheel and the M had exhaust, and that engine stock is 240hp at the crank. the gearing and the fact that they are light as **** allows them to beat cars that overpower them. Not doubting your story at all just warning you that if u come up against an e36 with someone who knows how to drive it you will get a run for your money. Good luck with your modding.

The new M3s have a very high torque peak, I think the SMG trannys slow them down!
I'll run one with my automatic GT convertible...
The E36s are light, torquey, but I drove a Dinan supercharged version today, and It didn't feel like it could take my GT Convert...M coupes and roadsters, i'm not so sure...low mass, and squirrly with that light, semi-trailing arm rear end, you have to be John Force to get a good 0-30MPH time...
CB
P.S., I've been a factory BMW mechanic since 1986...LOTS of test drives!!!

those m3's are fast, they can run with our mustangs ( all stock ) untill were like 100 or 120 mph then they can smoke us....

but i have raced an M coupe that has this m3 motor.. it looks like a box with 4 tires and he had 4 exhausts.. and was manual, I raced him with my friends mustang which had a CAI and a tune and magna flow catbacks.

we were going around 50 and we slammed them accels i was flying away from him untill 120 then we stayed at same diffrence but he couldnt get closer...

we have raced like 4 or 5 times .. all same results..

beleive it or not bro... i have raced an evo with my stock 5spd tungstnizer and he had a mod too.. anyway we started really low speeded something like 40 kph in 1st my front bumper was near his hood when we hit 2nd i got his front bumper near my hood on thrd i started taking off untill his front bumper was near my dor then he stopped... i couldnt believe it but it was really a sweet *** race.. btw the evo was 8

iv ran an 05 Gt with my mom's 04 M3 vert 6spd (stick not SMG) w/ borla midpipe, axle-back and KN aircharger. launch he had a fender on me...stayed there until i shifted to third i reeled him in and was about a car ahead and pulling strong by 130. Shows how little tq that I6 has but the insane top end...(screaming from 6000-8000) Not bad for a soccer mom driven convertible. ok sorry for thread jacking

The older M3's are rated at 240hp. New ones at 333. Theyr both quick, but its the new ones that will stomp most of us.

The M3's (new ones anyways) are pretty sick cars, about a dead match with an LS1 car with the LS1 winning up top. If the WS6 had an SC and a cam, no wonder he smoked you, lol . Fun times

I don't think that thats true[&:] I have slowly walked away from a couple stock LS1's over 100-110 MPH.

newer M3's are solid low 13 second cars for an idiot to drive... lol... they are fast... and a world faster then the older ones.. I smoked a older one in my GT, and got beat by about a car or so by a newer one... lol it went from me winning by 3-4 cars (getting faster in the meantime) and losing by 1, lol
