I was leaving my friends house at about 1 last night, stop at a redlight and a black STI pulls up beside me. I looked over and knew i didnt have a chance, but i figured what the hell id floor it so that he can have some fun. So the light turns green and i get a decent launch, and for about a second we were even, then i hear his blow off valve and he pulls on me...by a lot. O well, it was heavily modded, and a death by STI isnt bad anyway, considering my car is close to stock. I still cant believe how much it pulled on me. I raced my friends 03 BMW 760iL and that race was closer han this one. This was my first experience with an STI. How bada** are they stock?
If it had a stock turbo, it should of had a bypass valve and not a blow off valve. Using a blow off valve on the stock turbo makes them run like crap. So my guess is that he had an upgraded turbo and if that is the case, they can make well over 400 awhp.
My 2006 is stock except for a stage 1 Cobb tune, which is the STi's equivilent to a Predator tune for the Mustang. I have to say that it pulls hard, especially in the low gears. It would have raped my Mustang when it was stock and when I get done with the work I am getting done in a few weeks it will most likely give it a good run from a dig as my Mustang stands now. STI's are great cars if you can get past how they look. I love it. Unfortunately I won't have a chace to run it at a track before the stage 2 work, so I can't tell you how quick it is in almost stock form. Pro drivers can get a stock STI in the low 13's, but Joe Driver with no awd launch experience is most likely running mid 13's and up. But once you get that launch down, look the f out.

With just turbo-back ehaust, tune, and 50/50 meth injection- about $1200 woth of mods. I put down 310whp & 375 wtq on my 04 STi. That 375wtq was at 3000rpm. Really a torqe-monster.

Personaly I like the STI's alot more than the EVO's,but I guess the EVO's are cheaper to mod.To bad they were both out of my price range when I was shopping a couple months ago.BTW,this question goes to the STI owners, how long do the clutches last when you repeatly launch those things hard, since theres no tire spining at all I can't imagine the clutch is too happy when they get at dumped 5 or 6 grand,or are they pretty beefy from the factory?

The clutch feels pretty solid it my STI. It grabs right off the floor and it's fairly heavy. But as to how it hold up to 5k-6k clutch dumps, have no idea. I actually have been working on slipping the clutch instead of just dumping it, but I haven't smelt that burning clutch smell yet. Wrxtraceformed is really knowledgeable about the STi, some I am sure he will fill in the holes and correct any mistakes.
Hey guys =) Nice death MustangMadness7, sounds like you ran into a monster of an STi
Yeah, the stock STi clutch is pretty solid, it will hold up MUCH better than the notoriously weaker EVO clutches (from what I hear anyway from some of those guys). My stocker held fine with lots of abuse even at ~400whp. I've ditched it now for something stronger, but it all really depends on your driving style how long it will last. Like BicketyBam said, if you can perfect the "quick slip" technique, you can put relatively little strain on your clutch and still get great launches.
