Default Drag racing In Texas

Hi guys, ive got a friend with a turbo Civic that ive been trying to beat in the 1/4 but I cant break 14's I have gotten a 15.1 and 15 flat. I know my car can do better also ive not been able to really launch due to my street tires. Well my question is how much time can I expect to drop if I get a set of drag tires? Also I am a very new drag guy but im trying to pick it up quick.

I saw that in your profile it said you have an 87. Is it a 5spd or auto? Bolt-ons with gears along with some good tires might be enough to beat your friend depending on what setup hes running. Is your car in good shape or is it a bit tired?

All it really has on it is 3.73's and upper/lower intake headers/flowmasters. It is a 5 speed then engine runs strong I start to pull him back in half track but I cant get off the line it smokes the tires even if im already rolling.

try to get a high performance fuel pump and a set of damn good spark plugs. that should give you an extra getty up. you unleash the beast if its not getting fed right. gotta give it more gas. and a nice pair of drag tires.

If you start pulling back it sounds like you need some better tires or perhaps some practice launching. Either way get some nicer tires and I'm sure that you'll be able to out-launch his fwd.

well my friend you answered your own question, there's something really fuggered up going on right there. you have rear wheel drive, he has front wheel drive, he has turbo lag and you have instant torque. if you start reeling him in at half track, then you have to work on the launches. if his car actually had more power than you, you wouldn't be catching up... he'd be pulling further, not the other way around. start with some good drag radials and practice practice practice, that's all there is to it... unless he's running slicks and has a bunch of suspension work, you should easily get him out of the hole, and then just keep pulling.

the stock fuel setup is good to about 270 rwhp. he isn't even running close to that. spark plugs are not going to make a difference in his application.

like others mentioned he just needs to get off the line.

yea man i have an 88 and stock i ran 14.7... tho my altitude may be lower than yours, i dunno. either way, i think stock you can get more outa that, and w. gears and the other things you mentioned you should be low-mid 14s i believe... w. drs and a good launch... i wanna say high 13s?<someone can verify that tho, im just going on what i know.
