Opened her up today. (Top speed)
165 yesterday.. (4:30 am on a desolate HWY with no cars for 15 miles)
I actually had to use math to figgure it out (and found a cute RPM to MPH calculator on the net to confirm)
Peg'd the 140 spedo at just under 5k rpm... Kept pulling very strong until road began to turn.. After I let off, it took the needle about 5 seconds before it started to move off the 140 mark.. I had guessed close to 160 untill I did the calculations.
Pretty stupid I have to admit, but It was rock solid and very smooth at the speed.. I was kind of scary thinking that It probably could have made another 15 mph with out breaking a sweat.. But word is, that you don't want these things going that fast in stock aerodynamics and suspension... I hope my mom doesn't read this.. She might not invite me to Christmas this year...

I would be worried about the aeros on those ... didn't the S197 race cars start loosing their hoods at certain speeds? A lot of lift generated from what I have heard....

Does this calculator also take into account drag and rolling resistance?

[&:][&:]are you mentally challenged? hitting 85 in my sisters 01 cavvy was scary enough..
ive hit 5200 rpms in 4th gear with 26.25 inch tall tires and 2.73 gears... no idea how fast but the turn was coming up too fast so i slowed down.

My buddy Ryan and I nailed the governor all the time when we had our 96 and 98 Cavalier Z24's. I think the governor kicked in at 110. Car didn't feel like it was lifting or completely unstable at all. We did it all the time and never really gave it a second thought. We never had a moment where we felt we should never do that again.
I'm not sure how much faster it could go while maintaining some stability, but 110-112 wasn't bad at all.

PS: Its good for theoretical speed, it does take into account what trans, rear gear, engine RPM and tire size.
say you were on a dyno... you could pull 256 mph cus there would be no wind resistance. but on the road, doubtful. my cars theoretical top speed would be..... alot... probably 200 plus but my hood would come off, top latches would break, etc. that is, if i had the power to pull past 130..
