Default LS2 GTO gets dusted

Him: Yellow automatic'05 GTO with headers, tune, cam.

Me: CMCV deletes, 4:10's Vortech/aftercooled - 10psi., MAC exhaust.

This was a planned run against a GTO friend I made when I owned mine. His friendly chirpping became to much to take. He has gotten mid 12's out of his car onslicks, so I knew it was quick. I hate to sterotype here, and this guy is a casual friend, but I know from experience the GTO guys get a little cocky when it comes to Mustangs. To me it's all in fun.

We ran twice on street tires with the following results.

Run# 1 - I took him out of the whole by a fender and that's as close as he ever came. I easily put about 5-6 cars on him and had let off earlyonce the point was made.

Run # 2 - Knowing he was easy prey, I walked it out of the whole and let him pull a car on me, and then put my foot in it. I shot right by him like he was standing still and then let off again.

He took it kind of hard, and vowed to be back with heads and gears.I am now vindicated for selling my GTO!

Don't take this the wrong way but just out of curiosity, if you were willing to dump all that money into a mustang, why didn't you put a maggie on your goat instead? I would think you would have got faster times with a supercharged goat than you are getting now? Alot of GTO guys are beating 03-04 cobras with just cams and headers. From what i've seen the new GT's with FI are similar or slightly slower than the 03-04 cobras.

The S197 with the same HP as a terminator could run better if both drivers were good.

The S197 is Lighter and doesn't have to lug around IRS...

To put this into perspective, blown S197's are deep intothe 11's. I'm not saying all, but it is becoming common place for blown S197's to run these times on stock internals.So, to say they are slower than 03-04 Cobras iscompletely dependanteach car and it's mods. It most certainly cannot be a blanket statement about the two cars, as the mods determine the outcome.

As for blown GTO's beating Cobras, it's again dependant on the mods that the Cobra has.I did consider putting a blower on my GTO; however, it was ineresting to note that their RWHP and 1/4 mile times were not more impressive.To illustrate my point, my GT makes approximately 470RWHP. Most blown GTO's on stock motors were putting down RWHP's fairly close to that or slightly more, and the carsaround or over 500 RWHP had supporting mods. Factor in the weight advantage, better aftermarket, and my preference for a solid axle for drag racing, and that was the basis for my decision. Lastly, I just could not see investing in a car (GTO) that I knew I did notwant to keep for a long period of time.
