1st time bracket racing !!
As the title says, here's a little story about my 1st time bracket racing (as copied from another forum).
Wow!!! Never saw so many good cars in one place...ALL FORDS !!! [sm=icon_rock.gif] Not a Chevy in site. Check out the view from the grandstand before time trials got under way..

How'd I do?
1st time trial run I pulled a 14.535@95.73 (just .03 shy of my best), but I did pull a .494 redlight. Redlights don't matter in time trials, so felt good knowing I was at least close.
2nd time trial run was a 14.510@95.46 (.005 shy of my best :eek ), and this time I yanked a .436 redlight. That wasn't good
So for my 1st run of eliminations, I dialed a 14.50, figuring I'd give myself a .01 cushion. Brave wasn't I? :lol Lined up against a Stang with the carb sticking up thru the hood :eek and dialed in at 11.5. That meant I had a 3 second head start :lol
The thing about bracket racing is, they don't show you your reaction time in eliminations, so you don't have any idea how well you got off the line. During the run, I felt I was a little slow taking off because I wanted to be sure I didn't spin like a lot of street tired Stangs were doing. Then once I got going, I got into it. Run felt good, but that 11.5 car was hunting me down....FAST!!! He got by me about 100 feet before the line, and I heard him lift early. After going thru the traps, I saw his win light was glowing, not mine
Pick up the time slip revealed at least 2 reasons he had won the race. One was my reaction time. A sleeping .687 !!!
Guess I hesitated a little too long, huh? That's gives the opponent almost 2 tenths of a second advantage right there!! The other reason I lost is because...and of all the times to post my best ever run, this was not the time to do it >: ....a 14.470@96.53. Yep, broke out :rolleyes Bad enough to give the other guy an advantage at the start, but then make sure he beats me by breaking out :lol
Talked with the guy after, and because I slept at the light and thus was able to catch me, he could back off. Turned out that saved him, because if he didn't back off, he would have broke out, probably worse than me, and would have given me the win. Even with backing off, he still turned a 11.528, so if he stayed in it to the end, he surely would have broken out. If only I had gotten a good light (where's that emoticon that's banging his head on a wall? :lol ) Anyways, here's the Stang that sent me home early...

A lot of neat cars there. Ever wonder what happens to the old cars? Some turn up at drag races
Here's a few I caught. The Maverick in the 1st pic below was a treat to watch leaving the line...:eek

Should have been there OB. Lots of fast Stangs and Fords that would have made you drool big time [sm=icon_stickpoke.gif]
Awesome, thanks a lot for the pics. Too bad on your loss, but now you'll know next time! The reason everybody probably started breaking out is because as the track cools down, you're gonna pick up some speed. Humidity normally settles down a little bit also the later it gets. In bracket racing, having been around it and doing it most of my life, it's tough to judge the time you're gonna run because the weather effects it so easily. Good luck next race!
COOL PICS WHAT ABOUT THE TA IN THE SECOND PHOTO
