They do rev higher which often lead to worst gas mileage on the highway but nothing too bad. You have a V8 anyway who cares about gas mileage. They don't have any adverse effects on your engine though.

4.10s was the best mod I've done so far. I can't imagine how cool 4.30s in a car that redlines 1000 higher than mine feels.

Depending on your tire's dimensions you should be at around 24xx rpm @ 70 mph with 4.30s.

No offense but are you a female? We're giving you advice on how to make your car faster so you can beat your friend and you're worried about comfort? Should've just bought a BWM or some other 4 door luxury car. I don't care about comfort though. I learn to adjust to it and keep going[8D]

I turn 3k@80mph.I can see not wanting too deep a gear[like a 4.30s or lower]if it's the only car you have and you drive on the interstate alot, but 3.90s or 4.10s still make a nice difference in acceleration and won't have you reving too high on the highway.Screw it,just put 4.56s in it and be done with it.

hes 17 i believe... maybe 18. idk we're both seniors in high school. ill find out exactly what he has done and let you know. another thing. what exactly do gears do? because this kid i know told me that they just make you rev/idle higher and its a very cheap (not like in price) way to get faster.
Wow rich kids how great. Wrecks a car so mommy and daddy buy him another one[:@]

Gears shorten the length of your gears[&:]. They cause you to accelerate faster since the gears are shorter and it puts you into your powerband faster. With your car you should go 4.10s at a minimum. Most people seem to go with 4.30s on a 4V motor since they like to rev
While they get you to powerband faster, they also get you OUT of powerband faster. What gears do is a process called torque multiplication. Basically, at a given speed under WOT it is producing a crapload more rear wheel torque. At a given rpm, the numbers won't really change (ie, on a dyno), because the gears do not affect the power the engine makes, just the torque at a given wheel speed. As an example, go floor it from 30-60mph in 3rd gear, slow down, and floor it from 30-60mph in 2nd gear. That is the difference you will feel in all gears with 4.10s/4.30s approximately.

WTF is a chip? Do you mean a reflashed canned tune?

Like WRX said. An exhaust and a canned tune (termed Stage 2) will get a good driver into the high 12's with those cars. The tune also helps them in the higher gears, so don't assume a roll race is in the bag either.
Exactly. WRXs are real touchy. To put and intake on, you have to have Stage I. If he has turboback exhaust, count on Stage II possibly. I have a friend who has Accessport. He had to do that to do more than a shifter. Bickety knows what he is talking about. WRXs have to tune for everything. I actually wouldnt put you winning any of them w/ equal drivers. There are a lot of variables though, mods, driver skill on both sides, etc. You really have to know what mods he has to get a good comparison. Good luck though.

lol no quickshot im not a girl.... its just that its my only car and im only 17. i drive it everyday all day so i would like it to be comfortable. anyway i know this post is a few days old but my car is not in good condition as of 2 days ago. i checked myoil about 3 weeks ago and was expecting to go get an oil change within the next 300 miles. i pulled onto a street and went WOT... next thing i know at the stop light my car is ticking and the faster i RPM the faster it ticks. lovely i think to myself... i bring it home and the next day check the oil stick... almost nothing on it. HOW THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN??? there is no leak i know for sure.. it burned up practically 70% of all the oil. idk if i need a new motor now but its under warrant so im bringing in to the dealer today to get it checked out.

I don't see why a 04 STI could not beat up a 01 cobra fairly badly. I was putting a hurting on cobras with just boltons + cams and lightly modded STI were still a very good race for me.

If the STI has a tune and even a little more boost he is gonna walk away.
