Default 350z, blown?

So, I just got my 67 up and running the other day with the new 302. The carb and ignition weren't spot on yet(got that done today for the most part). First off, here's what I got, a 67 Coupe, with me in it and a full tank of gas, 2,900lbs maybe a bit more/less, 3.00 gear with a 4sped toploader(wide ratio) 91 roller block, Crane roller cam/lifters(214/220 @ .050 .513/.529 112) Crane full roller rockers, AFR 165's with Comp Beehive springs, production crank with floating pin 5.7" lightweight Scat rods and lightweight Mahle forged pistons with low drag rings(all balanced, duh) 9.44:1 static CR, Weiand's new Action Plus carb intake(pn 8124, with a mild port match) Holley Street Avenger 570cfm(like I said, not dialed in at the time), Hooker super comp long tubes and Aero Chamber mufflers 2.5" with h-pipe, March UD pulleys, MSD dizzy and 6 box with Mallory coil. So anyway, I'm cruising down the street the other night, and some turd in like a beater Civic was trying to race me(I think?) so at like 2,000rpm without shifting I just gas it someand pull away from him....and when I come up to this lighta new 350z zips up next to me and revs and jumps a bit, rims, and at least exhaust(but sounded more potent than just a stock engine with pipes) so I drop into 2nd and dive a lane over right up behind him. He takes off. I take off. We seem to be almost even, maybe I'm pulling on him by hairs? We come to a red light and sit. Light drops and I go, feathering the throttle for traction(225 BF Goodrich street tires, got traction bars though, so it ain't too bad). He goes too, I pull out ahead of him about a half a car to a car and as we run up through the gears to about 80 or so I SLOWLY walk him(though I had to change lanes twice and he didn't) The thing is, I would have expected my car to be faster than a stock z with pipes, so I'm thinking maybe it was blown, turbo perhaps? I couldn't hear jack from his carover my car though. Wanted to see what you guys thought about what mighthave beenin that thing, cuz I would think I'd be quite a bit faster than a 350z with pipes and maybe some bolt ons. You think turbo, or do they just respond REALLY well to bolt ons that are available for them? I don't know too much about the new 350's other than they got about the same hp as a new Mustang GT

they respond to bolt on mods like a 2V... not that good

a basic bolt onone I can see going mid-high 13's

a blown one... lets just say FI makes them hang with the best of the best

So you think it was prolly a mildly boosted setup then? I can't imagine my tuning was off by THAT much

IDK too much about your setup... I only know what will make a given vehicle do what and what a given car can do stock.... start talking custom grinding and internals and I'm clueless, wait for someone who knows a little bit about your car to come in

all I know if you ran into a heavily boosted Z... you have a fast car

I don't think heavily boosted. Mildy maybe. My setup is for nitrous later down the road, but on the engine with good tires I'm figuring it should get me into the mid-low 12's, 300rwhp or a tad over maybe

Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think your car is as fast as you think it is. I have had a boosted 350Z hang with me from a roll and I run well into the 11's, of course from a dig I would have raped him severly but my car is rather weak from a roll. My bet is that without a sticky tire your car will be in the low 13's. The 3.00 gear, wide ratio trans and that Street Avenger carb are going to be your limiting factors.

I'm not sure what your engine is making in terms of power, but after reading the 3.00 gear and 9.4:CR part, I don't really see your car being a monster or anything. No offense, just saying. And it seems to me that if that Z had just an out-of-the-box FI kit, w/ no tuning, he would have taken you. My bet is that you just ran into one w/ quite a few bolt-ons and the good driver mod....... Just my opinion....

I know the gear ain't helping a whole lot, but I don't want too much on a dd with a 4spd(I do a lot of highway driving). Built more for broad torque andadequate mileage than all out power. I just wasn't expecting a 350z to be quite that fast(or me quite that slow? everything's relative I guess), and I don't really know what they do with mods. That's why I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what that 350 mighta had done to it, since I never got a chance to ask the guy.

mildly modded they can run anywhere from mid-high 13's

boosted and running 9PSI with stock internals on pump gas they are a low 12 -mid 11 second car trapping at 115-120MPH

JD is probably dead on. I have a buddy with a BMW M3 with 290 going to the wheels and he ran consistant 13.6's. Your probably about 400 pounds lighter than him but his suspension is worlds betterso I'd expect your car to run low to mid13's. Hit a 350Z with 5 or 6 pounds of boost and it will probably get into the high 12's to low 13 range. Hit them with alot of boost and just like anything else they can be pretty sick.
