2,000 for a new one plus you will need all the linkage for the manual trans. just keep the auto install a beefy torque coverter add a good shift kit and install a trans brake and enjoy the fun.</P>

It depends on what kind of M/T you want. IF they offered a 4sp for that body style and engine you have then call around toa few salvage yards. If you prefer getting one in better shape then check out ebay. Reguardless you CAN spend 2k on a really expensive setup, or maybe just a few hundred dollars.

you can get a new tremmec 5 speed for about 1200 I have one in my car..but let me tell you that c-4 with the right reprogram kit with be faster and with a good stall..and the fun thing is you never miss a shift and over rev the engine won't drop the driveshaft and doesn't put as most stress on the drive train..alot of pluses huh? one day they will make a race 4 speed automatic that comes in a new car,,the 5-6 speeds are there now for the " fun factor"..given same 2 car only diffence is transmission I'll bet you everytime in an automatic

i second vfast.. manuals are way more fun to play with but for consistency and straight up performance, stripwise the right auto will come out on top...

Default AOD tranny

I am hoping to install an AOD transmission in my '67 289 cid coupe, currently with C6, want 4 speed auto. Suggestions?
Also looking to install Edlebrock Multi-Port EFI unit, anyone done this before? Not looking for a racer, just improved performance, reliability, mileage.

Default RE: AOD tranny

^^^Now there's the way to go IMO. The C4 is great for the track but lousy for the street. The 4r70 gives you the best of both worlds. Mine is holding fine after a year and a half and you can see my sig for how hard I beat on it. I even have a pretty small converter (9") that gets hot as hell yet I still daily drive the car 12K miles a year with no trans issues. I did blow the trans once but that was because the company I bought it from (art carr) used a stupid plastic clip to pin the throttle valve open and it broke and ran the tranny dry.

I tore it apart and replaced the plastic clip with a beefier metal one and have no issues at all now. It was just a fluke and the first time I have ever seen a plastic clip for the throttle valve. They are usually metal and sturdy to begin with.

Try PA (performance automatics) and Summit has quite a few manual valve body 4r70's as well from different manufacturers. Nothing beats a full manual auto with a brake...period.
