Default why bother racing?

So, my current daily driver is no rocket. The best that it has run is in the high 15s, and while thats not very fast, it will still beat many of the wannabe racers around such as the gawdy ricers and rednecks in beat up trucks. however when i drove the white car on the street, i found that i couldnt let myself turn down a race...especially against a car that i KNOW has no chance against me.

yesterday it was two high school turds in a beat up early 90s V6 thunderbird. it was on an empty stretch of highway, and even though i walked away from them several times, whenever they would catch up, i would shift and again walk them.

does anyone else find that you just refuse to give people in crappy cars the pleasure of saying "i saw this guy today in a mustang and he wouldnt race"? in my case recently, it was more of a high speed cruise, but when i drove the white car on the streets, if i had something like a beat up corolla with a fart can and a body kit pull up next to me and rev, i would almost never back down..i just didnt want that person to think that their car could beat anything..especially me...i look back and think that it was really a waste of my time and effort, but i still do it...

does anyone else run into this problem? i know that people on here post kills against cars that they KNOW wont give them a run...so why do we bother?

I get that all the time. Altough it is a waste of gas and a waste of my car zipping past all those other cars, I still do.... I agree with mustangdemon. It is to feed our egos. When we lose, for some, it makes us want to race more, and exploit our egos. Your not the only one Ride of The Month.

I had a firebird behind me yesterday that wanted to race really bad. He snuck up on me while I was stuck behind a honda with a fart can muffler. I'm pretty sure I heard a blow off valve or him purging his nitrous system which is what made me look in my mirror. I don't know where the kid thought we were going to race because I was turning into a residential area and there aren't any straight roads around my area. He was jumping over into the other lane and gunning it then getting back behind me.

Anyway I know he was pissed when i put my blinker on and slowly turned onto my road. I'm sure he would have beat me, ls1 with a power adder no doubt, but I just worked 10 hours and wasn't in the mood.

I'll be watching for this guy, he was going to pass on a blind hill in a 35 zone with roads and houses everywhere. He'll be next weeks news.

A little more on topic, I was passing some guys in a hyundai who just kept speeding back up with me. I dropped it into 3rd and smoked them good. Not sure if they were even thinking about racing me, but they were pissing me off.

That is annoying as hell. I hate those little cars that tempt their fate when trying a mustang. I think you would've taken that firebird. Never know til you try!

I guess I can be called a racing addict. It gives me a high, whether it's running(that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away), bicycling(still do it),or driving a car.
Plus, when driving itprovides the benefit ofpreventing the ECU's adaptive learning algorithm from softening up the tune.

It sounded pretty strong to me. I'm not sure what year it was, it might have had the LT1 engine. It had the really pointy nose so it could have been mid 90's. It matters not if he was spraying though.

LOL - you're not alone bro...

Funny thing is the cars I actually wouldn't mind racing are usually the ones who just wave and want no part. It's the 'not a chance in a million years' guys that seem to always want to try me. I really think they know they don't have a chance but just want to see/hear my car go.

I've got to do something about the sound. My car is just too freakin' scary sounding. I really wish it sounded more stock.
