The stock 87 Mustang 5.0 was a mid-to-low 14 second car at best. The s197 runs a 13.5. Anyone who's read car and driver or the mustang magazines at the local supermarket can tell you that. The 5.0 was a good torque motor but max horse was at 4200 rpm if I have my figures right. Aside from going stoplight to stoplight, the s197 has traction control, a transmission that can actually handle the output of the motor (5.0 = 300 ft/lbs bw t5 = rated to handle around 265), seats that don't send you to the chiropractor, a shifter you can actually use comfortably...it's a car that you can race and also drive comfortably on a long trip. The 80's and early 90's were dark years for Mustangs, maybe because Ford's only competition was from the equally low-quality f-body and vette. Today sports car enthusiasts have more choices from imports and the barhas been raised, and this is reflected in the quality of the s197.
My old 5.0 was a brute...it was great for racing around and pissing off the public but that's about it. But I've gotten way off the subject of a straightline race. Stock vs. stock only the weak 96-98 2v GTs will fall to the old dinosaur 5.0. Long live the 4.6!!! Progression and technology are good things!

why is it that other boards like to ditch us.i was on the other 4.6 boards just looking last week and some of them were saying our cars got the ugly stick and stuff.if thats so why do we get more complaments,especially from women.
