Track tire question????
I have a set of 275/40/17's MT ET Street Radials on 17x8 wheels. I have had them at the track, and really just havent had any luck at all out of them. Tried every air pressure from 12-22, and I just cant get them to stick off the line. I usually give them an aggressive 2nd gear burnout BTW. Even on motor they wont stick. Yea, I can get a 1.85 60ft, but thats almost getting LITERALLY SIDEWAYZ. When spraying, they just go up in smoke in 1st, and leave me just sitting there.
I just picked up a set of 255/50/16 BFG radials for CHEAP. They have more tread than the MT's but thats not much. I have them on some 05 Sixxer stockers. They OBVIOUSLY have LOTS more sidewall than the MT.
The BFG's are a little taller than the MT's so they may help out on the launch. They are close to the same width.
SO, I really can't make up my mind which ones I want to take to the track. Which do you think would work better?

if you really want off the line stick, ur going to have to get some ET streets, not ET street radials. mine would spin through 3rd (same size 275/40/17) and once i put the biasply's on, all traction issues were relieved.
oh and between the two, u will probably have better luck with the 16s, since more sidewall.

I pull 1.5's on my M/T radials and have seen them go high 1.3's. I think he is asking alot of 275/40/17 trying to launch on spray. I think it may have more to do with his IRS than anything else.

I'm just gonna try the 16in BFG's, and if that dont work, 26x9x16 full slicks will be in the works
I've seen cars pull wheelstands on ET street radials. My buddy was launching his Camaro on the bottle to 1.5 60 ft times and eventually snapped his rear end. 255/50/16. No suspension work at all.
Not to discredit your story in any way, b/c that is freaking AWESOME, but that must have been a hell of a nice track.
I go on ricer night, and I'm usually one of the only ones that run slicks, so no one cares about track prep.

yes, to get the radials to hook, u need incredible track prep. try launchin a 500hp car on drag radials on an unprepped track, and its over. at least with the biasply's u can stand a better chance.
