Default Mustangs Competition

I was talking to a few people about the stangs main competition right now. The new mustang everything but navigation is 29,600. For this price you can get a 350z with leather but I think its a little more. This is what we came up with for the s197 GT's competition
wrx STI
Lancer Evolution
Honda s2000
350z
GTO
2008 G35 coupe(330 hp)
Bmw 335 (cost too much to be against the GT but it would be a nice close race)
Charger R/T\
all of these except the Bmw are 26k to 34k sticker price.

Sounds right, but all of those cars are more expensive than a fully loaded Mustang GT. Once you startadding options on them the price goes way above what a GT is. The new G35 coupe fully loaded is going to be above 34k for sure. I just have a hard time comparing an S2000, STI, Evolution, and 350z to our cars. Don't get me wrong they are nice cars, but they just don't have what the stang does. They don't have the feeling, noise, and raw power that GT has. And the stang is really is to mod. I guess thats why I have one.

well, i'd agree somewhat, but most of those cars are in different classes and don't really directly compete. The sti and evo are their own competitors, they are a two car class pretty much....some other subarus fit in that class, and some older cars, but right now, new they are competing against eachother, not so much the mustang. Who is torn between an evo and a mustang gt? it's almost like a conflict of interest lol. They are close in performance and price, but i doubt they steal sales from the mustang. The infiniti G37 (It is the g37 now not the 35 anymore) is somewhat a competitor, but again is in a more luxury class than the mustang, the 350z is alot more comparable. The s2000 is more of a roadster that competes with cars like the mazda miata, porsche boxter etc. the real ones i agree on are the charger r/t, the 350z and the gto.

My GTO was $32,000, most GT's you see at deaerships that actually have options were $30,000. But you get what you pay for.

A STI and 350z has just as much horsepower as a GT, and the Evo is close too. S2000, I can agree.

I guess that depends on what you mean by "actually have options." The base level GT starts out at a Deluxe model and the only other one is the Premium model. The only difference being that the Premium has the Shaker 500 stereo and leather seats. You could add on other options such as side air bags, Shaker 1000, GT appearance package and so on, but the Deluxe model GT comes with enough for some of us. For $24k new I got plenty for what I paid for.

what were they, loaded convertibles? You are getting taken if you buy a gt coupe for 30k even fully loaded.

Yeah but even though the new Z and the Evo have around the same HP as the stang they just don't make it the same way. I've driven my friends 350Z and it is a fast car, but it just doesn't sound good to me inside and hes got an intake and exhaust. I've never driven an evo, but I'm sure there is lag and I know they don't sound as good as an S197 stang from outside imo. I'll take my V8 over a high reving 6 cylinder or turbo 4 anyday even if they might be a little quicker stock for stock. The only other car I would compare the stang with would be the GTO.

half those cars, with all the same toys in the car, cost much more then the GT, what were you compairing the fully loaded GT to a baseline of everything else? kinda a stupid comparison if you ask me.

if you want a v8 with a stick, and some decent power, the gt is the best bang for the buck. period.
