Dude, this race will be close. You will lose big time out of the hole, but you will run him down. My predictions are:
<1/8 mile = you lose
1/4 mile = close (you have a slight edge)
>1/4 mile = you win.
Oh, and those are for the 2.5L Altima. The 3.5L will own you.
Here's a couple tips. Do NOT race him with your top down. The top down creates so much more drag and makes a HUGE difference. I speak from personal experience.
FYI, I used to own a 1989 5.0 convertible. With underdrive pullies, and a K&N drop in, I ran a 16.1 1/4 mile at 90 mph. The stock 2.73's suck major ***. It was the slowest car I've ever owned off the line.

1. Practice your launch. Find your RPM to break stand.
2. Over inflate the front tire a little maybe 38-40PSI, proper pressure in the back.
3. Get a fresh fuel filter, $10, use sand paper to clean the contact points on the rotor and the inside of the cap.
4. Top up(like he said), windows up, air off.
5. Before hand, determine the length, the longer the better.
6. Put the trans in overdrive and leave it, no manuel shifting.
7. Maybe remove sparetire/jack ,and anything else loose.
8. Run some fuel system cleaner through your next tank of gas.
9. Clean T.B, and make sure the MAF wire is clean.
That all the cheap/free things I can think off right now. I think that the race is yours if you can launch well and keep it wound up.
