Nice kill. STi should be a little faster but you rac the driver as well as the car he's in from a dig.[sm=smiley20.gif]

errr... you had him by a fender out of the hole? that doesn't sound right for a turbo'd AWD unless he didn't launch the car at all, or you have more mods you're not telling us about.
I have found the average STi driver has no idea how to launch their car, quite fun to watch actually. Go to the track listen to them all brag about life in the 11's and 12's, watch them run a high 13 and then bellow out every excuse you can imagine.

Not to jack this thread but what is a Stage 4, thats something I don't get about the 4 cyl crowd, everything has a stage. Did you guys borrow that from Jack Roush or does every company just have stages to install?

I have a blower installed, so since nothing else is done do I call it a stage 1?

He had his RPM's up on both runs. He jumped me a length on the first and we shifted second about the same time, but I pulled very hard in second and made up the difference. The second run I don't know what happened to him; his RPM's was up, but we came out pretty even with me just ahead. He was a younger, but some of those young bucks can work a shifter in a car. I don't have any mod's that I know of other than the one's listed. I bought the car used back in Feb. and it had 15k on it. If a tune or anything else was done I have no knowlege of it. We ran the cars first thru third so we were closer to a 1/4 of a mile than an 1/8. Like I said I have never run one of these cars and I was a little hesitant about it becuase of the AWD, but it turned out OK. Who know the next guy may eat my lunch, but that is in the game. You are going to either win or loose and this time I won twice.

The easy way to launch is to rev it up high and dump the clutch. But you risk busting something. I won't do it in my modded STI. The other way takes practice. You need to bring the revs up to 3,500 or so and quickly slip the clutch while maintaining that 3.5k level and then it's a very quick shift into 2nd. If you can do that, you can launch the STI like a rocket.

He had his RPM's up but it did not sound too high. He may have not known how to launch the car properly. I can't bring my car out too hard; I launched my carbetween 1300-1500 or I spin like mad. The secret to me is I have driven standards all my life and I have learned how to bring it out and accelerate with out a bunch of loss traction.

With the STI, you loose power if you don't keep the RPMs up. So if you launch at 3k and slip it too quickly, the RPMs drop out of boost range and the car kind of bogs. It's tricky to do and I am still not good at it. To make matter worse, the clutch in the STI is very stiff. It feels 3 times as hard as the one in my Z06. I love the hydraulic clutch in my Corvette. I get in the STI and start hating.
