Default 2.73 gears + stock converter = weaksauce

Yeah I know, Captain Obvious.
Went tothe striplast night with the Nittos. They hooked great but apparently my car just can't push it out to the 60 ft any faster than 2.06, barely any better than what I was doing with rain tires. Considering how bad I was spinning those, I was really hoping for maybe mid 1.9x with traction. It didn't make any difference if I stalled it or floored it from idle, it just leisurely pulled away like I was just driving like normal from a stop sign or something. I flickered the stage bulb so it's not my staging. Could I be doing something wrong or is it really just that much of a turd off the line?
Guess it's time to change some parts or just stay slow.

Mine is LT1 but anywa. on a hot ground, my LT1 DO NOT spin tires at all when i floor it. you are rigth the car will not cut a good 60' without gears or converter.

I know it sucks but they kinda fun on the highway

The thing that sucks about stockautosis with the stock stall you will more than likley bog it off the line with DRs....Dont feel bad it happnes to me to....I say your next mod should be a stall, than watch your car fly.

A stall, shift kit and gears would be a huge change. What ever happened to the spray?? still not bolted on yet?

Nah, not yet. I wanna see how well I can do with just some very minor bolt-ons. I may not keep the car for too long anyway (but that's a different thread).

Mine cut 1.9x's from the factory with factory tires. I had 3.23's from the factory.

How are you launching? Are you stalling it up or just nailing it from idle?

3800 stall FTMother****ingWIN!!!!110n3 1.6 short times > 2.0's.

For the sake of all that is holy, just put a decent gear in the car. Even a 3.23 would help. Hell I know a guy selling a complete f body 10 bolt with 3.23's in it for $100, that's cheaper than a gear swap man. Come up my way and we can put it in at my place and your set.

I know the feeling. Try launching a tall geared car with a 2.78 1st manual trans [:'(]I'm gonna try and gear it over the winter so when the track opens back up in the spring my 60's won't suck so bad

My g/f had a 2.73-geared auto and one time (freak occurrance) managed a 2.02 on the stock Goodyear RSAs, not sure how she did it.
I tried both stalling it and punching it from idle with identical 60 ft times, 2.062.
3800 might be a bit much for my daily driver, thinkin' about maybe a 2800 Vigilante nitrous converter.

I plan to run 12.9 in October air so I think a converter and maybe gears I could run 12.50. But that's just speculation.
My best of the night was 13.167, .005 off of my best overall. Only trapped 107.47 on that run though (kinda warm yesterday).

That sounds tempting, although I drive a lot of highway miles and my car gets better MPG than my gal's 3.23-geared Z28. I will definitely keep it in mind though, thanks![sm=icon_cheers.gif]
