Yup,its about a 30 horsepower difference. not enough to Rape a LS2 but near enough to probully put about a car or two on a LS2 based model. i might do the swap myself to a LS3 and get rid of the LS2. both are awsome motors. but 430hp out of a NA motor seems like a good deal to me, fords still got the GT500 witch is good competition for the 6.0 LS2 GTO. its just a bit expencive thats all really
gt500= ls2 gto? HUH??

12.2 > 12.9 last time i checked. 7 tenths of a second is quite a bit. in fact even the ls2 vette doesnt run a 12.2. the ls3 vette is probably going to be around that time.
Hows it going Fazm? You always have accurate info....but I caught you slipping this time...lol
A couple folks on the Corvette forums have ran a 12.2 in a bonestock LS2C6 (one of them a six speed auto at that!!) Of course it's not the norm...but it has been accomplished!!!

well ill make it easy for you. they dont do 12.2 12.6-7 is more like it. and a GTO wont brake past 12.60 with a pro driver. there is a difference in performance. but nowhere near what your claming. and this being said with Pro driver in the GT500, a automatic LS2 gto will run a 12.90-13.1 all day. now, im assuming not everybodys a Pro driver, though they wish they were. but if the gt500 i raced from a ROLE was a 12.2q/m i would of got raped. just like the corvette z06 drivers clame low 11s all the time.. thats B.S 90% of them dont make it past 11.6 due to its a pain in the *** to launch just like any high horsepower car. i can imagine the gt500 the same, nobody said it was slower or the same as a GTO LS2. so i dont understand were your getting it from. but its not a bad race bye any means
Dude, It has been well documented that a stock GT500 has ran a 12.2....It's not the average, but it is capable of running low 12's......A GTO vs GT500 comparison IS NO COMPARISON.The Goat would get slaughtered...And your 12.96 GTO quote time is about as likely as a 12.2 GT500 ET....Definately on the higher end of the ET spectrum...

Average numbers is what I usally try to quote. The Average times for a GT500 are about 13.8 Same for a LS2 power vette! the average time for a GTO is 13.3 to 13.5

i hope u mean 12.8 for the avg gt500 and not 13.8 lol

and ive heard of a stock ls2 vetter running 12.2 but i thought i remembered it having not stock tires (upgraded from the dealer)

ive also heard of stock gt500 with et streets going high 11s (11.79 i think).

speakin of tire upgrades, didnt a stock z06 go 10.9 with just et streets?

I finally had a chance to meet up with a new GT500 owner last Tuesday while going for some takeout at the local Chili's. I complimented him on his sweet ride (stock except for some aftermarket 18" rims), and he asked me a bunch of questions about my GT. I headed out in the same direction as him, following his lead, and when we turned onto one of the local back bypass highways he put her to the floor. I did the same, trying to see how well I'd keep up with him from a low speed roll. I managed to staywith him good thru the first 2 gears (I had better traction), but once he hit 75 he started to walk out on me pretty bad. I was impressed.

The short of my story: anyone who can't at least manage a 12.5 in a bone stock GT500 is just plain afraid of the gas pedal.........or too much of a ninny to row the gears hard. My guess is that, like Vette owners, only a handfull of GT500 ownersare actually willingto use the performance that their car comes packed with from the factory.

The guy I ran into obviously had a deep passion for his car and knew how to handle it..........I expected to stay alot closer to him. But, it's nice to be able to say I got a chance to run a new Shelby......a perfectly respectable death.

look at it this way
the gt500 is at tad over 4K LBS
the GTO is right about 4K LBS

THE GT500 has 100HP more than the goat

do the physics of the situation

when you have the same amount if mass to move with less force (i.e. hp)
the car with the extra force available t (the gt500) is going to win.

this is ofcurse asuming perfectly equall drivers
and bone stock cars.

Except for the fact that the GT500 weighs less than 4000lbs (3950), and GTO weighs significantly less than that (~3700lbs). 100hp is good for.75-1 second at the track in the 12/13second range. By your logic, a horrible driver will run a high 12 in a GT500, and a superhuman driver would run very low 12, bone stock.

the automatics are faster then the sticks. though only bye 1-10th of a sec.
With any vehicle offered with either a manual transmission or an automatic, the manual will be faster. If I had a 6-speed I'd be deep into the 12s by now.
