Bird-Serpent War
A friend of mine has a 75 firebird, we've been wanting to race each other forever. We've raced on the highway before but that was when i had a 2.8L v6 and he had a smogged out pontiac 350.
I have:
2750lbs
85 5.0HO-maybe 250hp at the crank
bored .30
stock cam
Edelbrock Torker 289 intake
Edelbrock 600 carb
long tube headers
85 T-5
3.55 gears
13" wheels (when we race i'm going to use a set of foxbody ten holes with some bigger tires)
he has:
est. 3900lbs
Pontiac 400 (out of an old lemans, supposed to be putting out 350 at the crank)
all stock except long tubes and a Q-jet
2.73 gears
who would win in the 1/4mile? i can get anymore information if it's needed.

13" wheels??? You sure you don't mean 15"? Anyway, what year 400? Later years no way it's 350hp but even if it is, I'd say you've got him plenty covered, also I'd lay odds you're putting out more than 250 to the crank, I'd say closer to 275.
Run him and have fun!

if the 95 shtbird is a v6, dont waste your time.

lets just say that the 75 350 was making 192hp, according to my Monte Carlo owners manual, and was barely more for the shtbird. I say you win, he has **** gears and will have problems grabbing.

Well if his motor is out of a lemans.. they only put those in the early 70's models from what I can find and they were only putting out roughly 270hp at the motor. With long-tubes and a quadrajunkthere is no wayhe's packing 350 at the motor,so you can rest easy about that. More or less, you'll smoke him since you're a lot lighter and you have a lot better gearing.
As for the firebird...if its a V6don't even worry about it. If it by some chance has a 350 under the hood and is modded you might want to worry, if it's bone stock don't waste your gas because it's gunna be toast.
