Default Autocrossing

Hey guys I spent the day yesterday in Gainesville atmy firstautocross. I took some shaky-cam footage riding shotgun with my friend in his somewhat stock '01 GT (CAI/catback and some chassis stiffening). The runs weren't stellar but it was really fun and I hope to take the Cobra out at the next event. There was a pretty nice mix of cars there and while the smaller 4-bangers and WRX/Evos were popular there were quite a few examples of American Iron and suprisingly (or maybe not) the 2nd fastest time of the day was put up by a C5 Z06 (low 53 sec range) behind a fully race-prepped MR2 (mid to high 52 sec, can't remember). My other friend actually took 2nd in his class with a 60.4** in his '95 GT with just a CAI/headers/midpipe, lowered suspension, and subframes. 1st place in that class was a well-prepped Camaro by 3 whole seconds but my 2 friends with Mustangs actually put down better times than a couple of the WRX's that day.

I love a good drag race, but throwing some turns into the mix is great fun!

Yah, AutoX is the race of choice for most of the Suby guys. I've never done one but a lot of the Madison Motorsports guys (JMU car club that I'm in) do it regularly. Supposedly in our area there's a gutted, K-series swapped, well sorted Civic that absolutely dominates everyone in whatever the highest class is. It's a good way for people to test out their car's ability without the chance of wrecking it into a wall on a road course[8D]

Nah ha ha, I'm over the STi. I've already got my sights set on another project car sometime in the near future

The STi would have been a horrible autoX car anyhow... the turbo setup was better set up for drag / road racing.

damn that looks fun, they have auto-cross here on Fridays (the same night as open drag races) so you can do both. I have always been to much of a chicken to try my mustang on it. Maybe next season

Your buddy looks like he knows how to drive

Lol, yeah there were a couple times I thought we would lose it but he somehow managed to recover. He also somehow managed to not hit any cones on either of those runs. We were joking and saying he must be a getaway driver in his spare time but then found an empty bank cash bag in the trunk [&:]. I'm looking forward to going out next time but I know I'm going to suck it up because I'm somewhat inexperienced. Only way to get better is to go out there and do it though .

I go to quite a few auto x events with my friends and the C5 Z06's do dominate.
