Default Racing a 335i...

this evening i was hanging out with some buddies of mine..1 of which ownes an SRT8 charger and the other just got a brand new 335i...to say the least i had to put my stang gt up against the charger...frankly he beat me by about a cars length although i did keep up pretty well with a magnaflow 3" straight pipe and an air intake. NOW here comes the shocker i didnt expect....my buddy was looking to race ever since he got his hands on the 335i...i was convinced to wait till i installed the sct tuner to compensate for the loss in low end torque that comes with straigh pipes...i was too tempted though and we went at it....first try he started skidding and so did i from a rolling start but i could fairly say i beat him...the shock of my life came the next 3 tries when hed beat me by a cars length from 2 rolling starts and he also pulled off from 30mph....is it just me or should i be the one beating him atleast from a rolling start????...in any case imnever satisfied when a sport/sedan beats a full blown muscle car...any recommendations for parts to up my performance before i try it again with him???

Do you have a v-6 or a GT? If you have a GT you shouldnt have lost....unless its an m3 which you made pretty clear it wasnt.

Probably just hte driver....no offense.

ive gota GT auto...thing is for some reason the acceleration doesnt kick intill atleast.5-1 secafter stepping on the gas...i used that as the reasoning to why he kept on passing me...but he was actually pulling away while we were still at it...thats the shocker

The 335i vs a GT is a drivers race. C&D and most of the other car rags say 0-60 4.8 seconds, quarter in mid 13's. Pretty much the same as a strong running GT.

the 335i will out handle the gt any day of the week, and out brake. Power is close to the same stock. However with $1200 a new ecu is available giving it 400hp. a gain of 100hp just from retuning it. Now add the full exhaust, intake, and coilovers.

BMWs tend to have better suspension and traction control that lets them hook up better than the Mustang GT. And probably better tires than the Pirellis you might have. It's kinda weird that the Beemer has such a high tech engine (twin-turbo, intercooled) but with only 3.0 liters will barely beat a Mustang with a sticker price about $16,000 LESS! Could it be all those luxury options adding too much weight?

The 335i is definitely one of my all time favorite cars.....but with the overheating issue I'll wait for a few years till they get that bug worked out.

You should not have lost to a 335I. I raced one twice back in the day, and I only had an axle-back exhaust, and beat it by a car. I have auto too. You cannot just mash the gas. I brake launch at 2500K to get more torque out of my take off and at a lower RPM faster. All you need is a good Custom Tune at a dyno shop. You can get anywhere from 10-50 RQHP. Then you would hand them one. I do not like the BMW for one reason: It has 300 HP from the showroom floor, with a TURBO, and can barely beat a Stock S197. Put equal mods on both, still a drivers race. Add FI to make it equal on the mustang, mustang FTW.

Hmmm, how about a retuned 560hp E92 M3 V10 engine in a 335i??
