Default S197 vert vs. Lincoln LS

so I was sitting at a light on gratiot coming back from taco bell and an older guy (pretty heavy set) rolls up next to me in a orange and black convertable S197 GT with around 19-20" blackrims (not SUV rims, sort of like foose style)

I look over at him and give him a grin and a motion and he returns a stock exhasut rev.... TC goes off and I get it up to launch RPM's

we take off and I win that and he falls back to my door, 2nd gear hits and nothing changes then when my 3rd hit he put about a fender on me then (I assume his automatic tranny) hit 3rd and I make distance through his shift and have a fender on him.... end of mythird (90ish)he broke even with me and started to gimp away... to which I let off

all in all a death I am happy with

how much weight is added when the new GT's are verts? and how bad did those 20"brickshinder him?

The weight I found was 3,483 for the coupe and 3,613 for the vert. A difference of 130lbs. From what I have heard from the S197 owners, those 20's hurt him pretty bad, by ~0.2+ in the 1/4. <---correct me if I'm wrong on this S197 owners. That sounds like a fun run, one I bet the Mustang driver didn't expect at all Good kill

Well, I'm not a rocket scientist but..... auto + vert + dubs = no longer mid 13's. Those wheels prolly hindered him quite a bit, espec from a dig.

Wait, now that I think about it, are you sure it wasn't GT_Stang?????[8D]

if GT_stang is a big30-40 year old that likes to wear blue dew rags..... maybe

lol

3,613 for the vert
oh wow.... my lincoln weighs 3,700 lbs itself... and I had my spare out, and they guy def had 100lbs on me

I thought they were alot lighter [&:]

it definitely came down to the wheels then.... it looks like we weighedabout the same after all the factors are calculated.... he just has 20 more at the crank with 40 more lbs.torque

unsprung weightwas the only factor working against him

Nice launch. With no other mods I would expect that car to run mid 14s. The wheels just kill the s197. With my current mods on my 18s I run 13.4-13.6 throw on some drag radials on lighter 17s run 12.4-12.6.

you cut a second off your time run different wheels only? i assume one is a street tire the other is a drag radial

Depending on wheel size and type of street tire, it can be done without a DR. That is if you are talking extremes, like 22' to a 16' wheel with better tire.

around here the dealers offer them on dubs right off the lot.... they look pretty stylish on them , this guy was no different... while my car is a great sleeper that bugs people, his car def looked cool... grabber orange with dual black racing stripes going into a black ragtop with solid black "sporty" 20".... it def wasn't a truck wheel gangster car
