Alot of the sound quality has to do with where the mufflers are located as well...as far as how close or far back the mufflers are from the engine...but the 4V is definitly the best sounding engine i have ever heard.

ya the new 3v is not a bad engine, granted i would rather have the mach 1 engine over the new mustang engine but hey why dont some one just build the engines to the max and see which one makes more power???

Cause it would cost Ford too much money!! ....any 3V or 4V built motor with some f.i. can both lay down some nasty numbers...

Thought I would share this in hopes of the guy I raced might read it. I would love to know what all he has done. Here's what happened....
I am in Orlando for work this week and was on my way back to the hotel on I-4.A LOUD 2005 model GT kept passing me and reving his engine in an attempt to start a race, so I obliged. He pulls up on my left (5+lane interstate) and down shifts in preparation, I put mine in 4th since I have 4.10s and we are running 75mph. We both gun it and his front bumper stays at my door up to 140mph or so, dropping back a foot or so when he shifted (twice), and I pulled a good bit once I shifted into 5th. The race ended when we hit 155mph with me ahead a car or so.
He wanted to go again, so this time we slowed to 55mph. This time I started in 3rd, we took off at the same time, and I jumped a half car, hit 4th, another half car, by the time I hit 5th, he was still behind me somwhere-but definetly hanging with me. I couldn't really count car lengths and safely drive like that. I also had a passenger in the form of my wife, he was alone.
My biggest question here is, are new GTs able to keep up with Machs mod for mod? This GT I raced on I-4 sounded like one of those 4x4 trucks with glasspacks, not good[:'(]. I mean, I thought my car was loud, but I couldnt even hear mine-he may have had open cut-outs.
My car with a CAI and tune beat an '04 Mach 1 that was running a modifed CAI and tune, I'm sure it could have gone either way because we were damn close. He claimed his avg 1/4 mile at the time was around 13.4, as was mine.

3v is the new 4v.... but its sounds like absolute TRASH... so ill be sticking with the 4v

unless the 3v gets really cheap... which it will shortly be cheapo like 2v heads
Congrats on making the most ignorant comments of the day.

yeah, i'll agree to that. the 3v doesn't sounds that great. its got a different tone to it. 4v 4.6 is the best sounds motor i've ever heard.
I've been up for 30 hours straight so I'm going to try and say this nicely.

Are people just plain stupid or don't they pay attention? The sound of the 3V has more to do with muffler location than it does being a 3V, this is the first Mustang since the 60's to have rear mounted mufflers but at least the ones in the 60's had length after the outlet of the muffler. The length of the pipe coming out of the back affects how the sound is, it's also why some of us can't wait until their are some serious mid-mounting systems like the one Pypes has.

The 3-valve heads are supposed to flow pretty well...

+1, the 3V heads are top notch, not because I have them I'm going by what people say that have worked on them.

Back when I was just bolt ons Off road H, SLP LM's, 93 octane dyno tune, CAI, and TBS, I walked a bolt on Mach badly.

From what I've seen around the track, Machs and New GTs are kinda back and forth. It always comes down to the driver. I can't tell you how many 05+GTs I have seen running 14+ second quarter miles, then somebody lines up that can actually drive and runs a mid 13. I do believe that stock for stock, with equal drivers, the Mach has the slight edge. When I say slight, I mean a tenth of a second. But once the modding begins, who knows. I got beat by an 06 GT last week. He had shorties, CAI, Tune, and 4.10s. My mods are below. He ran a 13.1 to my 13.22, honestly he got that half car when I wheel-hopped 2nd (excuses, excuses). Point being, he had three extra mods than me (shorties, tune,CAI) and only got me by a tenth.
