Default Racing a GTI Tonight

This guy at my job has the new GTI Golfs, come stock turbo. Just has it lowered with a exhaust. Pretty quick cars!

I have a 95 GT, with underdrive pullies and a cold air intake. Not to mention, gave it new plugs, wires, cap and rotor and alternator and battery and new oil change. So it's running good.

He wants to race from a stop, which im not complaining about..but i want to run him from a 20 roll too.

What do you think? They come stock with 190hp and i want to say..207tq stock? pretty light cars..i'm goin with his car to win.

Its a low to mid 15 sec car depending on a driver so it will be a pretty close race but you will edge him out do to your torque advantage.

yeah exactly what i was thinking bro. If we run from a 20 roll, his turbo won't be kicking in until he gets into higher rpms, so it gives me a advantage on that.

But from a stop, if he launches that thing good..with no spinning and if i do the same that will be a real close race..

sucks my synchros are going..grinds a little but still grabs the gears haha.

EDIT: I don't shift at redline either..im pretty sure the powerband ends at 5500, i usually shift at 5-5200.

I think you have a good shot at him either way. His lack of Torque is his downfall. However, in the triple digit speeds, if you went that far, he will start to pull eventually and pass, his car will top out a bit higher. I don't foresee you guys going that high.

your powerband is good to 5500 dude, use it all! if you can drive i think you're gonna win. i pounded a gti a couple years back when my car was close to stock. i think i had full exhaust, cai and 3:73's.

He said new golf GTI though. Old one is 180hp new one is 197hp.

Exhaust might give a few hp depends what is meant by exhaust. If he has a tune / chip /remap whatever you want to call it. Then expect him to be pushing around 250hp.

I got my best times in my 94 GT shifting it at 47-4800 rpm when it was stock. Keep in mind that the valve springs on the stock heads are not really strong enough to control the even the stock cam and they will float valves at much more htan 5000 rpm. As for the race, it going to be up to the drivers. Both are lowish 15 second cars so it should be a good race.
