Default 3.8 Camaro

Well, i was cruisin around with my buddy zac in his 03 GTS Eclipse, I know its not the fastest car in the world, we saw a kid i knew from school drvivin the opposite way in his 97 or 98 Camaro, so we turned around to go have some fun. we got right up on them to let them know we wanted to race. we pulled up next to them and i asked if they wanted to race, they agreed, so we ended up going the first time from a 45 roll, it was close through the end of second and into the beginning of 3rd but then the Maro just walked my friend. Next run we went from a stop. through first we had about half a car on the camaro, but once again beginning of second the camaro took off like a bat out of hell, making us look like we were standing still. I know neither of these cars are the fastest in the world, but i have a little more respect now for the F-Body's, i was pretty impressed. Oh and by the way, neither car was that modded, my friend has a Spec Stage 1 clutch and the camaro and flowmasters. Jus thought i'd share.

cool...

best way to tell, 93-97 are the older looking camaros, 98+ are the catfish camaros.

93-96 have all red taillights, 97, and 98+ have the 3 color tail lights with amber, red, and white.

SOunds like a close races I hear the eclipses are roughly mid to high 15s, which is what hte average v6 Camaro is. Most v6 Camaros you run into are autos with 3.08s gears, and an open diff. They run mid, to low 16s. But the Y87 performanc optioned 3.8L and 5-speed camaros are low to mid 15s, high 15s if a crappy driver. Y87 cars have 3.42s, LSD, and fake dual exhaust(like the v8s) And 5-speeds have 3.23s, but the gearing in the T5, is pretty steep.

your real real close. Dead on with the lights. The times for the 3.8's are a little off. Very few run 16's. most are a high to mid 15 stock. I have my friends 01 3.8 firebird running 14.8 with just a flowmaster muffler, lid and K&N. Now he has an Alum driveshaft, 3.73 gears and limited slip that I installed for him. Should be a low 14 now. the 3.8's are a very nice V6. some how they really hit the nail on the head. They really can pull at high RPM and have just enough TQ to get them off the line. the 3.4's in the earlier fbody V6's are total dogs. a mid 16 car stock at best and really hard to mod

I thought 3.8 camero's were definetly slower than that, i have beeten 4 with my daily driver which is a 99 caviler its a Z24. I figured an 03 eclipse would probably hand that little car its tail. But if they are that close to a 3.8, then i might have to find a few races for fun. I have often thought about taking the cavy to the race track to see what it would run, so now i will definetly have to try that out for fun this summer.

the worst my friend ever ran was a 16.2 totaly stock and with a severe missfire that was pulling about 15 degrees of timing. 15.7 seems to be a really good average. Some tend to hit low 15's stock. I think driver is the large difference in times.

ur absolutly right about the 3.4 being hard to mod, my buddy poured money into his 94 maro and didnt get anything better than a mid 16 out of it.

exactly. There is something about that motor. It just doesn't respond. I only know of one fast 3.4. and it's still not that fast.

3.4Ls are alot harder to mod, I had one for a bit I ran a best of a 15.4, and I was considered one of the quicker ones(N/a) I had gears, intake, exhaust, pulleys.

As for 3.8L vs... a 99 Z24, its no impossible I have seen people run mid to low 16s, in 3.8Ls but lets face it there are idiots with every type of car, weather they cannot drive or they are not running right, 3.8L f-bodies are known to have problems with cooking plugs.

my car in stock factory trim would still tear up my girlfriend's '00 Z24. but then again I have a 5-speed she has an auto, adn that would make a difference, but the z24 has ok power uptop.
